All kind of boring links mostly before trade even completed but I was way too charitable on the Nets end of the deal. I remember being a little charitable to them since I actually have a Nets friend in real life and I wanted PP/KG to do well. (My honest thought at the time operating under the assumption Nets ownership would at least try to continue spending tons of money was that they overpayed by 20-25% in a situation that didn't need to be doing that since Ainge was in the same position that Chicago is in now....so I will be upset if Ainge overpays for Butler given his age/injury concerns) The Nets never had a chance to beat Miami after Billy King held onto Lopez and he got hurt and Williams played injured himself in the playoffs. I never saw Lopez as a long term must keep player or Williams as this must keep player so I would have been looking for another player that fit better with KG and considered dealing Williams as well.
Not sure if conditional protection is possible but what the Nets should have demanded before doing the last 3 years of the deal is a clause saying that if either 2016 or 2017 pick was top 1-5 and Boston chose to claim the pick since the top portion of the draft wasn't lousy like 2013, 2018 pick cancelled. If not possible, they should have told Ainge to go fly a kite before including that 2017 pick swap.
