Gut feeling is that we end up packing Bradley, Crowder & either Brown or #3 pick for either Butler or George, then go after Hayward or Griffin in free agency. I assume Hayward but we will be paper thin at big man. That changes a bit if George eases up on his request to not play stretch 4, which is almost essential if we are to compete with Cleveland or Golden St.

I think I have the numbers right that these 10 players (plus #3 & max free agent space) leave us right under 101 mil:
Thomas / Rozier / Jackson
Bradley / Smart / Nader
Crowder / Brown
Horford
Zizic

It may seem like an over pay, but to match salaries with either PG or JB, we will need to part with quality players/assets. If we trade AB, JC & #3 for George (please god, know he will commit to staying) & sign Hayward, our core team will be:

Thomas, Smart & Rozier at guard; George, Hayward & Brown on the wings; Horford & Zizic as the bigs; plus whoever we can get to tag along for the ride.

I like George as a player more than Butler, but I really don't want to spend all next season on pins and needles hoping he's enjoying his time in Boston enough to stay. It's not worth the risk when the guy openly talks about wanting to go to the Lakers of all teams.

Butler and Hayward to the Celtics.

Isaiah
Butler
Hayward
Horford
Zizic

Have to assume Bradley or Smart would go in the butler deal. Probably crowder too.

Jaylen seems a lock to stay.
Smart more likely to stay than Bradley.
Rozier or D-Jax
Yabu seems like a lock
Nader could be good.

Overall seems out bench will be super young.

Butler would fit in great, and cements us as a destination for players waived at the deadline.

To me, the ideal play at this point is to trade picks, Bradley and filler for Butler, then go all out to sign Blake Griffin and forget about Hayward.

IT
Butler
Brown
Griffin
Horford

is a heck of a starting 5. Crowder, Smart, Rozier, Yabusele, Zizic is a strong bench. Might even have enough to beat the Cavs. And we can build for the future at the same time.

That's an awesome incredible team that can shoot 3s. Love that you put Jaylen starting.

Rosier, Smart, Crowder and 3 for George. It's pretty even salary wise which leaves us enough room to offer Hayward close to the max.

IT -/ Bradley
Bradley / Brown
Hayward / Brown
George / Yabs
Horford / zizic

With Brooklyn and LAL / SAC still in our pocket

Ignoring the coming luxury tax in a couple years...

Crowder and Celtics 18 for #7

#3 for #5 and #10

#7/Memphis 19/Bradley for George

#5/#10/Rozier/LAC19 for Porzingus

Sign Hayward

IT/Smart
George/Brown
Hayward/Brown
Porzingus/VET/Horford
Horford/Zizic/Porzingus

I think it's more likely that Ainge convinces Doc to take Crowder, Bradley and Zeller as assets for a Blake sign & trade. If Blake is leaving anyway, Crowder and Bradley as 3&D guys as gel for Jordan and Paul would go pretty well.

I don't see this working with PG playing the 4. I know we all state that Brad's system is "position-less" as is the trend in the league but at the end of the day you've gotta be able to match up and a front court of Horford & PG will get destroyed.

Horford has had his struggles with Thompson but George vs Love favors George. If Cavs want to take the ball out of LeBron and Kyrie's hands to post up Love let them.

Against GSW you have Horford vs Zaza and George vs Draymond. I am fine with those matchups as well.

Every other team is the league would have to worry about matching up with us not the other way around.

Fair points. I'd still rather get bigger with better rebounding in the front court.

Honestly Ainge needs to come out of this offseason with two key players. Butler George Hayward Griffin. 2 of those 4 need to be wearing green for this offseason to be considered a success.

I don't understand sending out both AB and Jae for Butler.

If we're going win-now, how can we trade our 2 best wing shooters for Butler? That way even if you add Hayward too, you are looking at a slight downgrade in long-range shooting and lots of sketchy shooting off the bench too with Smart, Rozier and whoever we end up keeping from Jaylen or Jackson/Tatum.

And if you have to go Hayward after losing Jae, how do you address the 4? Theis, maybe a reupped KO and Yabu? Yikes.

100% agree. With all the talk, and previous attempted trades, I agree. Of course, if this doesm't happen, there will be much rationalization about how this was the right thing to do. It may be.

But with all the talk, the stashing of assetts to trade, and the fact that Danny already tried to trade for George or Butler really paved the way for big expectations in terms of acquiring another all star, or two. I think we come out with a FA at the minimum though. So a total failure won't happen.

We can't keep AB and Jae if we trade for Butler to then be able to sign Hayward. To be able to add both Butler and then sign Hayward, then Crowder, Bradley, Olynyk, #3, one of Mickey/Jackson and Yabusele for another season are all gone.

This scenario could make some sense with signing Blake Griffin.

What if we just pick at 3, sign Hayward and make something simple like Bradley for Vuc + filler

IT/Rozier/Jackson
Smart/Brown
Hayward/Nader
Crowder/Tatum/Theis
Horford/Vuc/Zizic

Can go big or small, maintains the young core and flexibility, gives Tatum and Brown a clear path to a starting role

NESN needs to stick to hockey and baseball. An article today said going after Davis would not be wise to give up our assets, and going after wings and guys like Butler is a better path for the C's.
