Once we sign Hayward what's the next step?

C Hassan Whiteside C ???????????C Udonis Haslem
PF Bam Adebayo PF????????? PF Okaro White
SF Justise Winslow SF Rodney McGruder
SG Gordan Hayward SG Josh Richarson
PG Goran Dragic PG Tyler Johnson

We would probably have about 6-7 million left after Hayward. Is that team really going to do anything? Now lets see a Blake starting lineup.

C Hassan Whiteside
PF Blake Griffin
SF Justise Winslow
SG Josh Richardson
PG Goran Dragic

Not very impressed with having J Rich as our starting two guard and the bench will have gaping holes with only 6-7 million to throw at it.

Release/resign McGruder and White - Renounce/Resign Babbit

First, you ignore minimum cap holds. Have to have a certain number of players on the roster. If you don't, you still have to reserve cap space for them. Each player you sign toward the minimum, one cap holds comes off.

Second, Collison will not sign for a paltry $2.5 million.

Third, releasing White and McGruder assures us off losing both.

Finally, Aldridge is 32 years old and wants to leave the Spurs because he can't get his numbers. Do we really want him here?

He is 31 and so what he has a problem with the Spurs thats why Heat can get him for cheap. Heat not losing anything for getting him. Putting Dragic, Wade, Hayward Aldridge and Whiteside on the floor is nothing to smirk at. He is an improvement regardless if he an asswipe. If not Collison then another vet damm. Well sign the Russian not Russian point guard. Im not a capologist. Tweek it and make it work BBALL lol.

At his season-ending press conference in late April, Riley hinted that resigning Johnson and Waiters would be the team’s priority. He added: “I hope Dion and James and the rest of our free agents like it here enough. We’re going to be fair with them and [hope] they will be fair with us.”

Some may disagree with that being success, but I think it all depends on what the definition of success is for this team.

If anything but winning a championship is considered a failure, then yes the Heat will most likely fail next season (barring some unprecedented moves). However, if success is viewed with a bigger picture in mind, then the outlook of success may be viewed differently.

Riley always has a plan, he's not always successful, but he always has a plan.

Best route is to bring everybody back and double down on this team. I would take PG and Hayward but if its only one of the two, then I'm sticking with our guys.

I really beleive in Dion, and I believe in what I saw during the second half.

Getting that same team signed long term is a win for me

Yup. If we could get Hayward with George together as what is being discussed with Boston then great. I just dont see us having the ammunition to pull that off. The most realistic option is to bring everyone back and work the trade market.

I don't want Paul George going to Boston. People seem to want to speak these acquisitions for Boston into existence. So far only Lavar Ball has had such success.

I think PG is seriously thirsty for the Lakers and whatever contract extension he does in Boston, he could easily do in LA. I would rather see the east get thinner and see Paul George go out West. With Butler going to the Wolves, acquiring a SF of Haywards talent would be big.

Question: can we now trade any future picks? I know we have 2018 and 2021 (or 21) to PHX, but what else?

I think we still can't trade any pick till like 2022 or 2023 due to the nature of those picks. I think that could change if we convey our pick next year to them. I think a major priority has to be good enough to send a pick that's at least 20th to the suns.

Yep - if we send them a 2x picks in the 20's for Goran, no problem.

If it's 2x Top 10...we have a problem...

Put it this way, if we're rolling out:

Dragic / JRich / FA min signing
Hayward / TJ / Ellington
Winslow / McGruder / White
JJ / Babbit / McRoberts
Whiteside / Adebayo / UD

Next season, we'll make the playoffs. Probably around a 4 seed.

Realistically, even if we just bring back JJ and Dion we should still make the playoffs.

This plan of keeping the same team sucks. Contenders keep the same team. Teams trying to be contenders don't keep the same team. They make improvements.

You can't keep reseting every off-season and expect to attract big time players. Need to have pieces to attract people, and those pieces are hopefully JJ and Dion.

I would consider it a success if McRoberts isn't on the roster next season.
