Am I correct that we can go over the cap if we re-sign Rush and Casspi?

We haven't released their cap holds, so I believe so. Not as sure about Casspi though, since we got him mid-season. Think we still can. I wouldn't mind having either back if there aren't other options available.

Yes, but they can only be signed for minimum.
You lose the right to pay 20% on top of their previous salary when they are renounced to make room for Teague and Gibson. This may cause Rush to walk to a bigger payday than the 9 year vet minimum of $2.1 million. Rush made $3.5 million last season.
Rush and Casspi won't actually be renounced until the paper work with Teague's and Gibson's signature's can be submitted to the league office. It's sort of simultaneous, but one preceeds the other, technically, by a millisecond.

I see us needing a sg and a sg/sf.
People are overlooking bjelica. He is a baller and began to figure things out toward the end of the year. I don't see why he cant play sf if he can handle the opposition's sf on the defensive end.
I don't see the value in giving up the 2018 okc first for minimal cap space.

I would agree that giving up OKC's 2018 1rst Round Pick is excessive for asking someone to take on Cole Aldrich.
With the new CBA, teams can now transfer up to $5.1 million in cash in a year.
So, if they were to "dump" Aldrich's salary, first, they would have to have someone to slot into that $7.3 million or possibly a little more, depending on where Teague starts out (he could start at $20.2 million or so currently and decrease over the next 2 years).
So they may not have to give up a pick at all. Perhaps just add 3 million or so when they send out Aldrich. Or, perhaps 1 or 2 second round picks in lieu of cash. But I would say definately not a 1rst rounder, just isn't warranted. And they would have to have a guy willing to sign for that money before they ship out Aldrich. That's just the way it works.

Re: We need shooting. Who do we get?
He would join the Warriors on a minimum deal had he gotten bought out. Getting paid 10+ million to go ring chasing. That's a no brainer at this stage of his career in my opinion. Nick Young on the other hand... Golden State would probably prefer Crawford over him because of financial reasons. That's another question whether I would sign Swaggy P after a contract year... It wouldn't be surprising if he checked out completely after signing his last bigger contract.

I'm not sure Nick Young would even consider us if we can only offer what everyone else is. He seems to love the bright lights and the lifestyle of a big city.

Crap... I thought we can afford 4.2 mil to Rush which is a fair deal. To Casspi I'd offer only a vet.min. So Thibs better to start hunting player who are willing to accept minimum offers.

Rush had his worst year last season

Our entire bench played like trash. Rush at least provided solid defense and hit some shots.

Rush is not worth 4.2 million period!

Teodosic would be a great deal for us!

Re: We need shooting. Who do we get?
The Wolves debate right now is who is the best player they can get with their exception, before asking everyone else to accept veteran minimum (because once they use their exception that's all that is left).
Then there is proven talent versus potential.
James Young played 3 years for the Celtics, and doesn't turn 22 until August.
He's a 6' 5 1/4" wing player, athletic, who would play great in D League but brick when brought onto the big stage. So, the Celtics cut him loose, and he accepted an invitation to New Orleans Las Vegas Summer League Team (due to fellow Kentucky Alums Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins) and that New Orleans sorely needs help on the wing (as does Minnesota).
Right now James Young seems to be a shooter who lacks NBA confidence, despite his D-League success, but possesses athleticism and a LOW IQ. Doesn't make the right decisions on defense, and doesn't think ahead. But at his age, this could be a case of figuring it out in a year or three. This is possibly a case where if you step in and offer a 2 year, minimum, guaranteed contract, you force New Orleans, before Las Vegas Summer League officially starts on Friday, to either match or perhaps get Young's signature Thursday or Friday morning. He has issues, but he is not yet 22 and could still "figure it out."
67% Free Throw Shooter (not good for a wing)
34.3% from 3 (not bad for a 21 year old)
56.5% from 2 (mostly due to close in shots, he's Klay Thompson's size and can jump)
Only played in 29 games, for 7.6 mpg, but then the Celtics were a 53 win team who made the Eastern Conference Finals
In this year's playoffs, Young appeared in 10 games for a total of 39 minutes, scoring a total of 15 points (35.7% from 3) with 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 turnover and 2 fouls.
Thibs will probably lose whatever hair he has left yelling at Young to do the right things on defense. Like I said, his decision making, especially on defense, needs improvement.

Re: We need shooting. Who do we get?
I saw on twitter, so it is practically fact :sarcasm emoji:, Teodosic was offered 3 yr 48M from Chicago and there was no deal. So don't get your hopes up.
I think all we can do is trade aldrich and pick plus whatever is left in our cap to get our 1st wing off the bench. Ideally it is a SF who can shoot very well and can start if needed. would that work to get someone like Crowder from Boston? I know he is not a great shooter but a rotation of Butler/Wiggins/Crowder would be pretty good.
Would we do something similar for Courtney Lee who could sub in for Wiggins at the 2 and Teague at the one. Then use the exception for Casspi.
After that we are looking at vet min only (Dunleavy, Aaron Brooks, Barbosa, etc). It is a tough spot right now.

Young was buried behind a plethora of good young wings in Boston. He has flaws no doubt, but if you're looking for a shooter off the bench, and a guy with upside to improve, he's a nice deep bench reserve.

Zero chance Teodosic was offered 3 years for 48Mil from Chicago Bulls.
I would be surprised Teodosic gets offered more than 28 mil for 3 years from any NBA team.
