New York Knicks Summer League Notes
Hey all!
Here are this year's notes from Orlando Summer League. Hopefully some things of interest in here1
1. They were really happy to bring back Ron Baker. Buzz was he wanted to play Summer League, but the Knicks shut that down quickly.
2. Team folks seem a bit split on Frank Ntilikina. Some think he was Phil's guy and with Phil gone, they aren't all 100% sold. But that is pretty common. They were hoping to have him play the last couple of games, but decided it wasn't worth it.
3. Marshall Plumlee had a rough week. He ended up getting cut and one person said "That was a waste of $100k".
4. Chasson Randle had a rough week as well. If the team lands another PG, Randle might be gone.
5. The team expected to have another PG signed by now. They had interest in several of the vets out there, but none were overly interested in playing placeholder for Ntlikina.
6. Don't expect to see Louis Labeyrie ever in anything beyond a SL uniform. The quote was "What a waste of a pick. He has all the potential in the world, but just doesn't get it at all."
7. They love Luke Kornet. While most see him as a just a stretch 4, they were impressed with his finishing around the rim and he showed better than expected athleticism.
8. Damyean Dotson has a ways to go and will log considerable time in the NBAGL this year.
9. Ognjen Jaramaz showed some nice skills. He'll likely develop overseas for the next couple of years.
10. Nigel Hayes may get a camp deal and then assigned to the NBAGL as an Affiliate Player (different from the new two-way contract). He needs to improve, but showed enough for that. Same with Jamel Artis and possibly Canyon Barry.
11. The sense is that nothing big can get done until they resolve the Melo situation. Even the Hardaway offer sheet was a surprise. The number one question every FA asked was "Is Melo staying?" and that makes it hard to land anyone.

Fascinating. I assume you were there again so this is mostly first hand? Anyway, Clarence Gaines was behind picking Frank Ntilikina, and he's still around. That's in favor of keeping Frank.

Re: New York Knicks Summer League Notes
#2. So seems like some in the organization share my sentiment. Which is why Phil should have been fired BEFORE the draft!
#4. GTFO no handle Randle
#6. He didn't seem like the type that "doesn't get it at all" to me
#7. Stretch 4? He is a 5 with 3pt range. Finishing around the rim? Athleticism?
#8. Dotson has a ways to go? G-League? Man, who is your source? They are either a hater or watched the games blindfolded!

Re: New York Knicks Summer League Notes
I'm somewhat confused by the Dame Dotson "has a ways to go" point since he was the only real bright spot the Knicks had out there. And him spending significant time in the G-League doesn't make much sense either since we are going to stink and CLee most likely will be traded.
Revolution starts in the mind...

Re: New York Knicks Summer League Notes
Thanks for the inside info! The last time, you gave up some really good tidbits like them admitting Jerian Grant was a reach by Phil and that it was clear immediately that he wasn't going to work out. You haven't failed us!
1. Chasson Randle should be researching what countries he's interested in playing and living in.
2. Marshall Plumlee should be packing his belongings for his deployment to Afghanistan.
3. Luke Kornet better hope Ryan Anderson isn't on his way to New York because there's not enough room for two of his kind.
4. Of course, Hardaway's offer sheet was a surprise. The Hawks probably wouldn't match even at a lower price and without a trade kicker. Not with them already having Bazemore. And if they match, well God rest their souls.
5. We need a new President, changes to the coaching staff (why is Kurt still here?
), and Melo and Lee need to be traded. Otherwise, we're in this persistent state of limbo.

Now that's right!!!
In short, all I am saying is RJ-Brunson-Grimes-Quickley-Randle are the untouchables moving forward.

Yeh Im calling bull **** on this dudes source. Kornet was awful around the rim and cannot guard 4s and Dotson was the best player on the floor.

Good intention and initiative but a dumb post. Especially regarding Dotson.

Probably because we have Hardaway now, and deep down they believe that Frank and Baker are SGs

Who knows? Maybe we're planning to keep Lee

I was there again.
And, same as always, these aren't my thoughts. All things that were told to me. If it was my thought, I would have clarified it as such.
FWIW, Dotson was good, but it is SL. A lot of the things he did, he wouldn't be able to do in the league.
And Kornet did finish better around the rim than expected. He also gave solid rim protection and moved well as the roll man in PnR. That is where I think that came from.

I'm surprised at his height he didn't emphasize learning how to dribble a basketball.

The Ron Baker points are bullschit too. THE TEAM wanted Baker to play. It was RON who elected not to play due to being a restricted free agent. There are quotes in the media on this.

yeah I do not agree on Dotson playing a considerable time in the g league and kornetts non existent game finishing around the rim...dotson jumper is NBA ready and has some athleticism
