Would be a good signing. I don't mind the player option on a 37yr old at around $4mil. I don't like the $19mil player options.

I think this is an important part.

Crawford can essentially run the second team offense, making the need for another PG lessen. Probably need to add someone, but doesn't need to be another primary backup. Crawford and Tyus will probably suffice.

I know right. I replied about that before. If somehow we pick the right player in the late first round that may or may not turn out to be equal to a player of Miles talent, it may take at least 3 years to get to the level Miles is at now. With a sign and trade, we get three years+ of Miles now.

plus Butler will be nominal PG a lot of the time

Just get wings and combo guards to allow Crawford and Butler to do that

I wouldn't give up that pick to get CJ Miles. Would rather gamble on Morrow and keep the pick. Once you get to the trade deadline if you actually need to make a move then Aldrich's value is much higher and you have a better idea on what that pick will be.

Would not give up the pick. 80% of what Cj Miles can give us can be had from another player for a lot cheaper.

I don't think any FA we could sign for the minimum would give 80% of what CJ would. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Exactly. Crawford will play on the ball, you can use Tyus there if need be. And of course you can play Butler And Wiggins at the 2 with Crawford. Miles can still fit in just fine too

After getting a pro like JC on board, no need for Miles. You can find a project wing for 5 minutes a game at the YMCA.

Yeah, it just makes the contract look better to the player. If we do well next year, Jamal will accept the second year.

I get that the player likes the option, however to me it is weak negotiating that we seen to give that to the player most of the time or just drastically overpay like for Gibson.

Have you ever tried to negotiate a contract? Not an easy task to be honest.

It's clear we're trying to keep guaranteed years down to two. Teague is the only reported signing so far with a third year (and that's an option year). Very possible the only way Crawford said he would sign a 2-year deal is with an out after one year.

If we can just get Reggie Bullock, I'll be satisfied. Great corner 3 shooter for the bench.

Glad Wolves didn't give up a pick for Miles. He'd help right now yes there's no debate about that. But for all the people around here that wanted Jimmy Butler or Jae Crowder or CJ Miles, these guys were drafted 30, 35 and 34. A mid-late first round pick isn't a throwaway chip for good organizations and this team will need to find players who can play on rookie contracts in a while. You can't build a sustainable winning product without hitting on draft picks. And trading them away to overpay for a nice bench piece is too shortsighted.

There are levels to 'going for it' and clearly this team is in a 'win now' mode. That doesn't mean they also can't keep an eye to the future. I'd rather it be a 'win for a while' thought process. And keeping the pick to give yourself a shot (yes it's not a guarantee I'm fully aware) at extending whatever winning window you have.

For those who wanted us to keep the pick you got your wish. If we exercise it next year odds are the player will end up being worthless, but there is a chance of the player we pick being useful. We will have more opportunities to trade the pick and if we do that it is almost guaranteed to bring us a useful asset.

I'm very glad we didn't trade the 1st for Miles. Picks are very valuable with how the cap is set up now. Getting a guy with team control for so long helps when you hit on a pick. You'll see teams at the deadline willing to sell players to a team pushing for the postseason and that pick with Aldrich's partial guarantee will be valuable.

The bolded part is the big question. It isn't a lottery ticket. More like a raffle ticket. You have a chance to win, but not a very good one.
