This is such a great move by the Knicks. We weren't getting what we wanted, so take a step back. At the very least the Cavs have to consider upping their offer, or if Melo actually comes back and has a great season, we either keep him around and make a playoff push, or move him at the deadline when there is a clearer playoff picture for him to look at.

Anthony has been a pro during this whole process....even when Phil was taking shots at him. I have no doubt that if the decide NOT to move him, he'll show up and make no more wave than usual. As comical as this has been, it hasn't reached a point of no return. Especially with a new GM, no reason not to let dude play out this season (if the offers suck) and let him walk.

Nice post. Melo wasn't really the problem last year, it was Derrick Rose.

This team needs a pass first PG to get the other guys involved. I can't remember how many times Rose checked off KP on the offensive end.

Melo is actually quite valuable to this team; he makes a concerted effort to get KP involved on the offensive end, takes a lot of the heat off of KP (i.e. lack of double teams on Porzingis,) and the man was just a season removed from leading this team in assists per game.

If this team never picked up Rose last year (and weren't riddled with injuries,) they could've been playoff bound. That's how much of a negative impact Rose had on the team, especially on the offensive side (which is saying something considering he was abysmal defensively.)

If they hold onto Melo and can actually bring in a pass first PG, this team can compete for the playoffs. Now that might not sound enticing to a lot of fans on here, but I'm sure guys like KP would cherish the opportunity for some playoff experience. The team has to show improvement on a year by year basis if they truly want to build something here. Tanking annually will cause a lot more rifts than benefits.

Basically this team needs player like Chris Paul.

correct, and the pressure now swings to Morey. They will have the CP3 press conference today and he will sure get asked by the media and the fans what happened and you gotta make this happen. Plus getting pressure from Harden/CP3 + melo's agent...I don't see how Morey doesn't start moving additional pieces to make this work. He has too.

More news later yes!

Obviously Paul was/is a pipe dream, but there are many serviceable PG's that look to orchestrate an offense rather than just getting "theirs."

Off the top of my head, Rajon Rondo would fit in perfectly here. I was a bit on the fence about him considering his on court play the last few seasons, but he erupted during the playoffs and had he not been injured, they could've made it into the next round. He was that impactful in the series.

Rubio would've been a good player to pickup before he was traded as he's another pass first guy. They just need someone that actually wants to get the other 4 guys involved offensively. Rose is a scoring PG through and through, he'd be perfect in a 6th man role feasting on opposing teams' 2nd units, but he's still under the pretense that he's an elite player in this league so I can't imagine he'd be ok with that type of "demotion."

drekwins wrote:This is all PR boys and girls. Everyone just assumed that they'd give Melo away for anything or buy him out. This is a game changer. Puts the ball in Melos court where he has to demand a trade. Previously, he was just a victim. It also makes teams step up their offers. Lastly, if Melo does demand a trade, we don't have to give in to all of his wants anymore or we could enforce our NTC. I love the move.

Make no mistake, the Knick's are still trading him. This is just a great tactic to get leverage back.

This gives Perry time to look at everything that's been talked about in a Melo trade up until this point and gives him time to evaluate it cause he'll be the one taking on the phone calls and whatever else is needed and bring whatever is being proposed or talked about to Geek Mills.

honestly a shumpert/frye/jefferson/felder/osman package is better than Anders/Leonard + Harkless and a future 1st round pick

you could buyout jefferson...felder/osman try and keep.

You can move shumpert and frye to a contender either now or at deadline for maybe a 2nd round or two...and no long term deals.

The HOU deal becomes better if they find an expiring for Leonard. Harkless, and expirings + a 1st round pick is better than the above cle dead which is probably what we are shooting for.

all in on what... the 8th seed?

A team of frank, KP, Bledsoe, Timmy is not a 8th seed..... more like top 5

I'll take that

It really pretty simple actually, these teams thought we were so over Melo that we'd practically give him away and that's not the case.

I listened to Scott Perry's interview with Woj from earlier this summer.
He basically said the first thing that he likes to do is meet with every single person in the organization for 20-30 minutes to get a feel for who they are, what they want to accomplish etc.
I think thats exactly whats going on with the Melo decision.
