I believe getting Melo will pretty much mean Lebron coming to Houston next summer. Just having CP3 might not quite convince Lebron to come, but having Melo with Rockets might just seal the deal. The banana boat dream might just get real! This Melo saga is going to be interesting.

How would they be able to afford all three of those guys PLUS Harden's ~40 million?

Harden "only" makes $30MM next year. The extension kicks in the year after. The only way we get all 3 is if CP3 and Melo take $20MMish each.

Naw. They'd have to get clever with the cap but you could get LeBron $20MM+. The cap should be over $100MM next year. Harden takes up 30, Melo 20, Paul 20, that leave about $30MM in cap space. They'd have to go Heat style and move all their other contracts but that shouldn't be too hard. Gordon at 14 and Tucker at 8 shouldn't be hard to move. If you can convince Cleveland to take Capella, Gordon, Tucker in a sign and trade it makes it even easier. I have no idea what all would have to be done with cap holds and sign and trade rules but it could get done.
