Can't really back down either, by your same logic..

Talk to Melo about expanding his wish list
Have him understand a buy out will not happen "No"
Go find a deal that works for the Knicks.
The impression I had was we had a deal in place already. A deal we were good with ?

I don't think that a deal was ever in place, and it probably wasn't us that backed out. I'm willing to bet that it was team #3 or 4 that backed out. Somewhere along the line a team had to give up something and get Ryan Anderson in return, and Houston is probably holding things up by not sending a pick or two to unload Anderson.

If the Rockets are serious about making a run against the Warriors. They need to pay up and get him in camp before the season starts. That would be better for the Rockets instead of waiting for all-star break

we are trying to do a straight up trade with Melo to POR? I don't see Melo going there but if there are talks you have to assume he ok'd the location why do all that work and no he isn't going to waive it?

How would Melo in Portland make sense? The wing combo of Lillard, CJ & Melo would be the worst defensive trio in perhaps NBA history.

Houston makes far more sense considering
[*]He'll be playing the 4 there which is by far the best role for him both offensively & defensively.
[*]He'll have two of the World's best playmakers in the League creating easy looks for him
[*]Harden & CP3 are both Superstars. Dame & CJ are a tier behind them.
[*]He'll be the 2nd option on Houston behind Harden
[*]He'll be surrounded by great defenders (Mbah A Moute, CP3, Ariza, Tucker, Capela, Nene, Black)
[*]One of his best friends is on the team

The Rockets are just a flat out better fit & they would be considered legitimate contenders if it wasn't for Golden State's fantasy team. KD or Steph get hurt in the Playoffs & who knows what could happen?

I don't think it would be drama if he stayed. Would be a bit uncomfortable, but it does him no good to sulk and be a jackass, especially if he wants to be dealt. He would have to be the model citizen and play well. Much rather keep him for a year then get garbage back for him. I can't imagine he isn't traded though, Houston needs him a lot more than we have to deal him. They are all in. Something will get done.

Melo wants the buyout

There is no reason for us to do this. No incentive. Front office emphatically said no. Better not go back on it now.

Melo is actually putting more pressure on Houston, but it won't be REALLY felt by Morey until Melo expands his destination list. All Mills & Perry have to do is keep stating that we are going to stick to our strategy of youth and small contracts. Put all of the heat and scrambling on other teams and Melo. F*** the spin stories and s*** Melo's camp may try to disseminate to media through hack reporters and such.

I think it's extraordinarily unlikely that he opts in to a contract for an extra year on a team that just benched him for an entire season.

THAT actually should be something that Anthony should be doing. Even if he has no real intentions to going somewhere besides Cleveland or Houston.

how could we generate a "smokescreen" if Melo just calls CP3 and says I ain't going to POR....boom end of smokescreen..

it comes down to HOU still giving us a deal palatable...at the end of the day.

So Phil Jackson was right saying we will wait until smoke clears after free agency. Now Melo is the only option for Cleveland and Houston. They better find expiring contracts or give up picks if they want him so bad.

Best believe Melo wants to be traded to he can opt in. Melo you not low. If youre not traded you will be a villain for opting into a team that doesn't want you.
