Re: Where is Jahlil Okafor?
Im taking richaun over him everyday of the week. Jah might get u 20ppg but hes going to give up 30-35 eeeeeaaasily. He cant defend the pick and roll if his life depended on it. Doesnt play within a flow, has to have offense play thru him (not good). 99% of teams run a 4 out offense utilizing a pick and roll with a man sitting in the corner. Jah cant defend it and i will not be convinced or more like fooled into thinking his offense will make up for it. His offense isnt as good as some are making out to be. Its really not.
Could u imagine jah in the playoffs or best case finals playing against gsw? Lmao he would get so abused it wouldnt even be funny.
Theres alot of blind hope in this thread. Plain and simple Tj mcconnell is a better rebounder, thats pathetic.

For the record, I don't think he was either fully in shape or fully healthy last season because he just wasn't moving like he was in his rookie season.
I do think his offensive skills can be used in some manner. Maybe in the playoffs Okafor might become useful because we all know in the playoffs finding good shots becomes infinitely more difficult in the regular season.
Maybe he puts effort into rebounding and defense going only 15 minutes a night as a back up instead of carrying the team nightly on offense.
What does swallowing pride look like? Forfeiting millions of dollars to be a team player? Not saying Okafor would be in for a huge payday by his next contract if he had more playing time, but he's certainly not going to get nearly as much as he would if he was getting starter minutes.
That's why I can't blame Noel for how he handled the situation.

Okafor is one of the worst players in the league on a team context. How can anybody think he will amount to something? Wake up people.

Okafor getting upset about not starting would be the most delusional thing an NBA player did this year, and at one point a guy said that the earth was flat.
I don't think learning to play team basketball will result in him making less money. Might be the opposite actually.

I was more taking aim at the "swallow pride and not be like Noel" comment. No player that was a top 10 pick should be swallowing their pride 3 years into their career. They should be demanding as much playing time as possible while they still have any kind of power left (which Okafor has very little at the moment).
Team basketball is reserved for players carving out a niche for themselves (journeymen) and players that have made it (stars, superstars) in the NBA. Everyone else is in sink or swim mode.

I don't know why you refuse to comprehend this (stubbornness? blind homerism?), but Okafor is not going to get those shots because it's not his offensive repertoire to get them in the flow of a good offense.
He's not good at setting screens.
He's not good at getting to open spots on the floor.
He's not good at running towards the rim.
He's not good at shooting from range.
He's not good at passing out of the post.
If your offense revolves around Okafor getting a bunch of ISO touches so he can get a few "when he is open or quickly beats his man" situations, you're already running an inefficient offense.
No offense, but it seems like you have little concept of what makes for good team offense.

Re: Where is Jahlil Okafor?
Okafor has played himself out of such worries.
There are very few if any teams that would trade for him with the idea of him starting. I dont care what Okafor wants anyways and if he wants to be traded hes going to have to show people hes worth something in a trade thats how the NBA works

Part of "sinking or swimming" is learning how to play team basketball. Teams aren't dumb, if you're only out for your own numbers you won't have very much success in this league.

I agree, Okafor didn't play well last season for several reasons. He should be much better this year, just being healthy. An Embiid/Okafor center rotation will be one of the best young combinations.

The same people in this thread hating on Jah are the same Noel stans that thought we should've given him the max... The same Noel that is sitting in FA still because he has minimal interest league wise, and thinks he's way better than he actually is.. Just as you all do. It's hilarious.

The fact is no teams want Okafor too, otherwise he would have been traded. That said, I am fine with him to be here for one more season and give him the one last chance.

Re: Where is Jahlil Okafor?
We should play up-tempo, unselfish, and free flowing offensively while having enough structure defensively to make the other team work every night. Everything about this is at odds with Okafor's game. He's a ball-stopping big who's yet to assert himself in any facet of the game that doesn't involve scoring.
I'm a throw back guy who can still appreciate the art of low post scoring, but not at the expense of the pace and rhythm in which the rest of the team is trying to play. I'd argue that a guy like Bolden is better suited to come in and make a more meaningful overall contribution. He may be an inferior scorer to Okafor, but he'll work the glass, defend multiple positions, set screens, guard the P&R, run the floor, switch out on the perimeter, etc. For the betterment of the team, that's the style of play we need to free things up and compliment our core guys.

This is a moot point because Noel is actually better than Okafor. Right now Holmes has more trade value than Okafor. We traded Long to the Rockets. The Rockets didn't want Okafor. That shows you how awful Okafor has been.

Itd just mutually benefit both parties if they went different ways. If he shows effort like he has his first 2 years specifically last year it could get extremely ugly from the fans.
Bc screwed this up last june.

I'm one of the few cautious optimists that thinks if we do hang on to Jah he can and will make an impact on a team with more talent around him. Just feel like he had some growing pains early not being used to such a terrible team. Yes, these are kids that all act differently under different circumstances. Feel like Jah can have a bounce-back year in terms of efficiency and being a better, motivated teammate.

As I said, I'm fine with holding onto him and giving him a shot in camp and preseason. But I think there's a question of what you do with his option for next year, which has to be decided on by Halloween. If the goal is really to maximize cap space for next summer, wouldn't the move be to decline it? Or do you just exercise it, hope he plays well, and if you need to clear space next July assume you can flip him somewhere without taking salary on?

My initial reaction was that your last sentence is right, i.e., if the option date comes and he's still here, just exercise it and dump if you need the space later. But then I was thinking about how few teams will have cap space next offseason such that it might be hard to actually find a taker. So if we go this route, we need to be sure we can trade him at the deadline for an expiring even if it costs us a 2nd or two to do it.

Absolutely false. Bryan wasn't going to make a trade of a 3rd overall selection that was two years into his rookie contract, for peanuts. He made that clear. On the other hand, Nerlens was also a player at a position of excess for us, and was not only about to need a new contract, but he didn't want to be here. Two completely different situations and Bryan made the right choice in keeping Jah over Nerlens.
