I think with all the trade speculation Wiggins might be holding out for a no trade clause.

Wiggins isn't eligible for a no trade clause yet

I was wondering about that. Does it have to be third contract?

I believe they have to have 8 years of experience and 4 years with their current team to qualify

He may think he's worth the max. even if he isn't right now. But, I would hope he and Duffy consider taking a little less than the max to allow a more flexible situation for when Kat and Butler have to re-up.

Yeah it would be cool if Wolves can get him for 5 years 135 instead of 148, but he's a stud. Gotta get him the max if that's what it takes.

He is not worth yet. I hope he gains more core, low base strength, improves his ball handling and shooting. And outperforms his max contract.

Regardless of what he gets, people are still going to find a way to claim it's an overpay.

It will be ,all he does is score, not an all star etc.
Does he bring more fans to the stands or watching the team?

Good to hear from Wigs. Some other pretty good quotes from Andrew in the article.

Wiggins also spoke optimistically of his new pairing with Butler, saying that he felt the two scoring-minded wings would “complement each other’s game and make each other better,” and said that he has been placing special emphasis on his three-point shooting and ball-handling this summer.

“[Being an All-Star] is definitely is a goal,” he said. “[To make it happen], we need to win first off, play good, and make my team better. Just rebound the ball more, that’d be the most important thing [to prove to voters].”

“We’re big. We play a lot of different positions. Weaknesses? You can say we haven’t played together yet. On defense, [you find success] when you’re ready to give in, when you’re ready to sacrifice yourself. Everyone can play defense. If you’re athletic and you can run, you can play defense. It’s a mindset. I think we were just a young team last year. We took breaks. We had good games where we played great defense and we had other games where we didn’t know what was happening.”

I'm hoping his mindset changes into a lock down defender. If he becomes a lock down defender to pair with Butler then we could be scary on the perimeter. Wiggins as a lock down defender and a tad better ball handler would make him well worth the max. For sure an all star and probably on an All NBA team.

Definitely. Also like mentioned before, this is the first time he isn't going into the season with a new coach. Hopefully some continuity as well as vets like Jimmy and Taj go a long way for Andrew.

Glen Taylor is going to give Wiggins the five year max, without much squabbling.

When David Kahn talked him into only offering Kevin Love the four year max, it put a sour taste in Love's mouth that eventually had him asking for a trade. The only reason we got Wiggins out of the deal was because LeBron wanted him. When most star players ask for a trade, their teams get 75 cents on the dollar or less.

I hope it's a full five year contract with no PO, the kid is 22 years old. When his contract is up, he'll be the age Jimmy Butler is RIGHT NOW. That is insane to me.

What's interesting is that this situation has been known for a long time yet the contract isn't done?

Just looking around at a few people who got the max.

Kyrie Irving agreed July 1st 2014, signed the 10th.
Anthony Davis agreed July 1st 2015, signed the 9th.
Bradley Beal agreed July 1st 2016, signed the 26th. <= didn't sign after 3rd year, wanted the max and got it his 4th year.

I think we all understand someone will give Wiggins the max if he goes into restricted free agency next year, I do wonder if Minnesota is looking for a discount for signing Wiggins early, wanting to see if he finally develops towards his potential in his 4th year or just don't want to be on the hook for that huge contract just in case he has a horrible injury or possibly how much value he'll have on the team with Towns, Butler and Teague already on it.

Something to think about, Wiggins and his agent want that max contract, they want that security and waiting a year and having an injury could cost them millions. If Minnesota wants to wait till next offseason Wiggins' could request a trade to another team who will give him the max this summer. As long as he's traded while on his rookie contract he can get the designated veteran's contract(super max) with his next team. Just something to think about.

Wiggins has only been back in town for at most a week since the initial report. He has been overseas and traveling for Adidas promotions.

Just a question:

Is 5/150 the same as 5/135 + incentives to make it 5/150.

Do both contracts have the same impact on the salary cap?

And? It could have been agreed to unofficially before July 1st, officially agreed to the 1st and then signed whenever he was in town. Is it not a priority for Wiggins? I think all that money would be somewhat a priority, anything can happen. Jay Williams was the 2nd overall pick and after a motorcycle accident never played past his rookie year. Bobby Hurley had a car accident after a practice and that basically ruined his career, he was the 7th overall pick. It should be a major priority to lock up that money for Wiggins' camp, not so much for the Timberwolves, they just take on an extra year of risk.
