This is a couple weeks old but I just saw this. That's a lot of money for a guy I was expecting to sign a vet minimum contract in the NBA.

That's kinda cool, it's a bit far, but I'd go for a weekend to Shangdon with my Bucks gear and cheer on Supercool!

Well, I'd think about it until I realize I don't like him enough to take a 3hr flight...

Dude scored 55 points in 3 quarters in just his 7th NBA game. It's ok to admit we were all a bit enamored with him at the time.

Reminds me of when T Buckley took his first or second punt return ever for a TD. Blew up expectations and created a lot of hype and excitement. Then he never did it again, EVER, for any team. Worse of course was getting eaten alive by tall WRs. He had a very productive career as a nickle back, but not as the 5th overall pick.

Jennings did the same thing to me with that 55pt game.

Fair comparison. Granted, TBuck was far more hyped coming in, whereas Jennings was more of an unknown. Jennings never lived up to the initial hype he created on the floor, but TBuck never was able to even somewhat live up to his draft status, which is what made him the whipping boy he became.

Kevin Pelton projecting the NBA Standings based on RPM. He has the Bucks as the 4 seed in the East with 47 wins.

Some other notable ones IMO:

Wolves as 4 seed in the West with 50 wins
Clippers as 6 seed with 49 wins
Jazz as 8 seed with 45 wins
Lakers 13th in West with 33 wins
Cavs as 2 seed with 49 wins
Raptors as 6 seed with 43 wins
76ers 9th in East with 33 wins

Milwaukee has the youngest rotation of any projected playoff team; the Lakers and Suns are the teams with a lower average age weighted by projected minutes.

Pretty crazy that this is still the case.

I think those are fairly accurate. My major gripe is Philly (33 wins) is projected way too low. I think they'll be over .500 and an easy playoff team.

If I understood the article correctly, he uses a 3 year average to project how many games players are likely to miss, so if that's the case, Embiid would only be included for like 10 games (if there are no adjustments to this whatsoever, which I'm guessing there probably are). That and the fact that Simmons and Fultz will most likely be net-negative players as rookies as most are and I can definitely understand why his projection is so low.

I have a little bit of money riding on them missing the playoffs as is; I just think people are expecting way too large of a jump from them. It probably ultimately boils down to Embiid's health though.

I doubt it. Their season will hinge on Embiib. Betting on him to play a significant chunk of the season is not a wise bet. Fultz and Simmons will likely suck as most Rookies do.

If I were a gambler I would put money on Minnesota being a sub .500 team and missing the playoffs.

Ehhh... 50 wins is too high...but the year to bet against the Wolves was last year, line being at 41 wins was free money.

Wiggins and Kat have yet to prove they play defense, Butler is a tool, and Thibs has certainly had a shelf life in the past. Them being a winning team is not a sure thing.

It'll be a pretty big failure if that Wolves team doesn't make the playoffs this season. The Western Conference isn't some juggernaut anymore and hasn't been for the past few years.

I think ten teams have a legit shot at the playoffs out west this year. It's far stronger then it has been. I'm not convinced KAT and Wiggins are going to contribute to a winning team.

Their defense isn't ideal, and Wiggins is another story, but you're not convinced that a 25/12/3 guy on 62% TS is "contributing to winning team"? Huh?

Also, 10 teams having a shot at the playoffs is more a sign of mediocrity across the board. The Warriors, Spurs, Rockets, and maybe the Thunder are really the only teams that are contender level quality. Those bottom-4 playoff spots are all up for grabs.

More of the combination of them together with the defense rather then individually. Like I'm cool with having an all star level talent offensively with limited defense if the guys around him are good. Now adding Butler is huge but I'm not sure it'll be enough.

I can certainly see them getting to around 500 and being a 7 or 8 seed but I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that's for sure. Now they'd probably a home court team in the east but oh well.
