LFT Kuz for Asik / NOP 2018 top 10 protected 1st
They fill a need
We get an asset
It does take away, potentially, 2 mil in cap space from 2019 as Asik has a 3 mil guarantee & LFT only has 1.

Re: Summer 2017 / 2018 Season FA/Trade Wishing Well
As a fan of the Pistons I would do this deal (I dislike Jackson more than Anderson though), but I don't think the Pistons would. It's going to be really hard to get anything in return of value for Carmelo and I'm not seeing many avenues for him to be traded if it hinges on someone taking on Ryan Anderson.
Knicks get Reggie Jackson, Tobias Harris, and Anthony Tolliver
Rockets get Carmelo Anthony
Pistons get Ryan Anderson, Trevor Ariza, Ramon Sessions, Ron Baker, a 2nd rd pick from NY (18 or 19) and a future 1st from Houston.
This of course would have to wait until December or maybe even January and Carmelo and Baker would have to sign off on it. What would the Knicks say?

He's at 104 S Lincoln Blvd, Venice, CA behind the auto repair shop. Should we go visit for his next workout to ask him? Anybody in Venice?

Re: Summer 2017 / 2018 Season FA/Trade Wishing Well
If Melo waives his NTC this makes sense to me;
NEW YORK TRADES:
Carmelo Anthony
Frank Ntilikina
Top 10 Protected 2018 First Round Pick (if not converted in 2018 then 2019/2020 top 10 protected; 2021 converts to 2 second round picks)
NEW YORK RECEIVES:
Kyrie Irving
Channing Frye
CLEVELAND TRADES:
Kyrie Irving
Iman Shumpert
Channing Frye
CLEVELAND RECEIVES:
Carmelo Anthony
Eric Bledsoe
Top 10 Protected Pick from Knicks
PHOENIX TRADES:
Eric Bledsoe
PHOENIX RECEIVES:
Iman Shumpert
Frank Ntilikina
Why for New York? -- New York is able to move on from Carmelo. They can begin the youth movement and pair Irving with Hardaway Jr, Porzingis, and WHG.
C: WHG, O'Quinn, Noah
PF: Porzingis
SF: C.Lee, Beasley
SG: Hardaway Jr., Randle
PG: Kyrie, Sessions, Baker
Why for Cleveland? -- This trade allows Cleveland to trade Kyrie while remaining a top tier team in the NBA. This may be enough to convince to LeBron to stay past this upcoming year. If everyone stays healthy, this team has a lot of weapons and is deep enough to compete with the Warriors and the other strong teams out West.
C: Thompson
PF: Melo, Love
SF: LeBron, J.Green
SG: JR Smith, Korver
PG: Bledsoe, Rose, Calderon
Why for Phoenix? -- Phoenix is able to get the #8 pick from the past draft. Phoenix will get their point guard of the future that fits the age range of their other top talent; Booker, Ulis, Chriss, Bender, Jackson.
C: Chandler
PF: Chriss, Bender
SF: J.Jackson, Warren
SG: Booker
PG: F.Ntilikina, Ulis
Any thoughts? Do you think it fair for each team? It would involve Melo waiving his no-trade clause as i mentioned.

We get a 2 year rental of a guy we're not even sure will be that great for us, and we give up our highly thought of first rounder and next year's first rounder?

Kyrie is a proven commodity. Frank, while we have high hopes for him, is highly unproven on the NBA level. It essentially boils down to Melo, #8 pick, and a #10 (10 or higher) for an 25 year old All-Star PG. It is a no-brainer if Melo waives his no-trade.

A no brainer? Did you run this through the trade machine? Do the salaries match up? People have a lot of questions about Kyrie's emotional maturity, as well as whether he runs the offense the way we'd like to see it played. How's his defense?
How about you wait and see the hordes of members here who rush to agree with you on this, since it's a no brainer. Let's see how many people agree that Melo, Frank, and a first are a no brainer in a trade for Kyrie. Even if they also throw in Channing Frye.

It does work on the ESPN trade machine, salaries do match up.
The first round pick is protected at 10.

OK, then it is technically "doable." We'll see if people start saying to do it. I don't know if Cleveland would, either, unless they get more desperate towards the beginning of the season. And of course, Melo won't want Cleveland with Lebron there for only 1 year and no Kyrie...

Melo's NTC probably does kill this trade, I agree with you.
While your questions on Kyrie's character/game are valid ones; I would love to see a line-up featuring Kyrie/THJ/Porzingis.
That Cleveland rotation would have major firepower. Thompson/Melo/LeBron/Smith/Bledsoe with Love/Rose/Korver/J.Green off the bench is very deep.

Yes, but it's a one year lineup if Lebron leaves. Frank and the 1st round pick would help them towards rebuilding. Well, it's a strange situation because there aren't a lot of guys with the NTC like Melo has, so he's unique. The intrigue around this is why everybody is so interested. I really don't want to trade Melo, Frank, and a first for a 2 year rental of Kyrie. So let's see how things go ... it's something to think about during this long offseason. Good night!
