Starting Carroll would give you a bunch of 3 point shooting in the starting lineup, but no size or Rebounding.
Starting five is probably Lin/Russell/Crabbe/Hollis-Jefferson/Mozgov
The Nets have some good options now. I was looking over the lineups of the bottom half of the East and I was surprised to notice that Brooklyn, man for man, isn't nearly as bad as people think. Brooklyn is significantly better than Chicago and Atlanta, IMO. The Pacers and Magic have some talent, but it's more mixed-matched parts. If the Knicks get rid of Carmelo without getting a now piece of equal value, they'll be behind Brooklyn too. The Nets just need to sign a legitimate NBA level PF or Center for depth, and they'll be much better than last year. If they get that, I can't see Brooklyn finishing behind any of those teams, if they are healthy.
Nets are going to see what Hollis-Jefferson can do as PF full time, he played well once he was transitioned there last year and where he lacks in height (same height as Draymond Green) he has a long wing span, moves well w/o the ball for catch and finish ops, can rebound, gets to the FT line, and is a solid defender who can switch onto pretty much every position on the floor. His shooting is his main problem, and also not having the muscle weight at this age might get him in trouble versus certain players (Derrick Favors).
I don't want to be over optimistic about what we can do, but this team plays hard and we've now added more depth and with an offense that moves the ball, high paced with high volume 3pt shooting we're going to surprise people. Defensively however, is another story, because Russell and Crabbe on the wings could be a liability if they can't improve defensively.
