11 rings or some other Phil Jackson recommendation? No thanks!

I started reading it and got about halfway through when Dolan fired Phil. Now it's collecting dust on my night table and I'm getting notices from the library. Fck me.

There's a metaphor in there somewhere.

Was thinking, there's almost no way that atm Ball or Fox could pull off a competent crossover stepback J ... prolly not even in practice. amiright

Ball's issue is his really oddball looking shooting form. Would be hard to imagine it in a crossover stepback J. Fox needs to work on his ability to play at different speeds. He's great full tilt but being able to consistently pull of a competent crossover stepback J needs him to be able to quickly change speeds and direction and show advanced slight of hand ball skills which he's not really shown a lot of.

How's that? :D

I should have specified Derek Harper as the comparison. I thought he was 6'3 or 6'4". BBall reference has 6'4".

Ron Harper was like MJ or Drexler prior to his injury. Height is right but style wise, not close to Frank.

My line from talking about these guys: "Guys like Hill and going far back, Derek Harper, just seem like bigger guards who are closer style wise."

Guys somewhat on the tall side or long armed, who play somewhat like Frank seems to.

I get Frank is 2" taller than Derek Harper. I just can't find the 6'6" guy with a similar game. I might be overlooking a really obvious candidate. But having seen a LOT of D. Harper - defensive intensity, leadership, excellent outside shooter, just enough dribble drive to keep defenders honest, overplay his jumper, he went inside. Play off him, he just canned jumpers. Solid. Tough. Not flashy. Fundamentally sound.

I'm sticking with Frank will be Derek Harper plus 2 inches taller.

If Frank grows another inch or two then we might be looking at a less athletic Scottie Pippen, another Gaines pick that was controversial at the time.

Suddenly Reece Gaines flashed before my eyes. Don't want to jinx it.

The Ringer' Kevin O'Connor on the dark horse ROY candidates:

Calipari’s quote sums up the public opinion on Ntilikina (for the record, we here at The Ringer call him Frankie Nicotine or Frankie Smokes. Frank works, too) these days. But Coach Cal did hear right: Frank is “really good.” The hurdle for young players trying to earn minutes is defense. Though just 19, Frank comes ready-made to defend, with a strong, muscular 6-foot-5 frame and a long wingspan. Ntilikina doesn’t take his athletic gifts for granted; he plays with a particular intensity and focus not often found in players his age. He puts his body on the line and has a knack for making winning plays by diving for loose balls, jumping passing lanes, or stepping up to take a charge.

His height creates passing angles that other point guards can only dream of. The ingredients are there for Frank to be a hard-to-stop pick-and-roll playmaker. He already can make slick passes like this: (video)

Both Melo and Tim Hardaway Jr. should get a lot of touches, which should help Ntilikina get buckets, considering he shot 38 percent from 3 last season, per DraftExpress.

While he might not put up offensive stats which ROY is usually based on, he is clearly going to get minutes early on because of his defensive abilities. This is especially true if Melo is still on team, which would mean Frank wouldn't be relied upon for offense at all given he would be the fourth option at best. Any offense he would bring would be a bonus. Still seems strange to me that a lot of people don't realize there are two sides to basketball.
