Re: Melo traded to OKC Thread (Cont.)
Maybe this was just Melo's trade value especially with that ntc. Some people even had him as the 64th best player in the league... We were desperate to get rid of him before training camp. And if we went into the season with him still on the roster the media circus that would have followed would have made things even worse.
Is Kanter really that bad?, he can't be Kevin Seraphin levels bad. I feel like he is a piece in a future trade package this season.
Anyway I'm glad its over, start the season already!

Re: Melo traded to OKC Thread (Cont.)
I don't know about you but moving forward I am actually more worried this season than any other the last 7-10 years.. This is the first time and the closest thing to a true rebuild I have ever seen the knicks do in my years of watching them.. I am hoping that the fans and media understand that its a process, the last thing we need is an upset KP once he starts feeling the heat from everyone, I definitely think we acquired THJ to take some of that beating.. I just hope Perry Mills and Dolan can stay the course my guess is that Perry has a 2-3 year plan to get us back to competitive, this year we could be possibly adding 1 top 8 pick and 2 high seconds to go with KP, Dotson, Frank, Willy, McDermott, THJ, and Baker, without question by the end of the season it will be the most young pieces I have ever seen on a NYK roster.
Dolan and his crew have been messing up building through free agency and trading first rounders for years.. to my knowledge this is the first rebuild ive seen.. just so many different ways they can screw it up..

I believe this trade is way overstated for the Thunder. I don't think it makes them more than a second round team and they still have to sign at least two of the big three next season. For us, we got rid of the distraction and uhhh, well got rid of the distraction.

So what is it that fans on this board do not understand? Both parties do not want to continuously answer trade rumors this offseason.
melo expanded his list because when perry was introduced this is what mills said in the presser
"If Carmelo is with us, we will continue to develop our young players," president Steve Mills said.
everyone thought i was crazy but if melo was still a knick he would've been coming off the bench.
No way would he come off the bench. That would be a Knicks PR nightmare right there.
Melo expanded the list because Phil pushed him to the brink of not wanting to come back. He's starting to hear the boos from the crowd and saw that Phil was now going for a rebuild. Perry and MIlls were just following through what Phil was doing. He didn't want any part of it.

kanter could be moved down the road. The knicks didn't want this to drag into monday so they had to get it done quick. THey probably will move Kanter or KOQ for maybe a future pick or something like that.
after the amount of melo questions at the press conference they were like it "f*ck it, make the deal"

Kanter is beyond horrible, mc dermott is meh and the second is completely useless.
i can't believe they couldn't get a first round pick, especially considering they are dumping kanter's contract.
we lost this trade by a mile
The second is not useless. It is the Bulls second and they are tanking. It will be one of the most valuable second rounders you can get.

And to say Kanter is beyond horrible while McDermott is only "meh" seems to show he hasn't watched either play baskteball. Kanter is an elite offensive player. The issue, as well all know, is his defense. Doesn't make him beyond horrible. And his contract is quite reasonable for our timeline.

Paul George, Carmelo Anthony’s new teammate in Oklahoma City, said the newest addition from New York has made the Thunder a “championship team.’’ George, a free agent next summer, also sounded as if he would be ready to be there long term if the new Big Three can stay put.
Anthony has an opt-out after this summer. If he stayed with the Knicks, he was expected to have used it. Now it’s wait and see as he tastes his new environment with George and Russell Westbrook — a thunderous Big Three.
“This feels like a championship team,” George told USA TODAY. “I’m in a good place. I know Russ is in a good place. Melo is motivated more than ever.”
Anthony has never been past the conference finals in his career and hasn’t made the playoffs four straight years.
“You put us three together, who all have something to prove still, [and] we’re going to be a special team. We have a young group, a lot of talent here, an unbelievable coach [in Billy Donovan]. As you see, [we have] a front office that’s willing to do whatever it takes to improve the team. It just has all the makeups to be a great organization and a chance to put championships together.”
“Russ and Melo, they’ve had a relationship far longer and way before me and Melo had a relationship,” George said. “Those two have been on USA teams, and then when I got the chance to play with Melo on the USA team. I expressed [and] he expressed how much we wanted to play alongside each other in an NBA uniform. And then when we both were presented this opportunity this summer, and knowing Melo wanted to opt out and wanted to move on, we’ve connected. We talked, and he expressed again — ‘Hey, I would love to come join you guys and be a part of what you guys have got going there.’ And then from there, it’s a no-brainer. We run with it, and it came to life.”
Anthony also added Cleveland again to his wish list, but the Knicks were stalled. They have long had interest in Jae Crowder, but he can’t be dealt until Oct. 22. According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Knicks instead asked for power forward Tristan Thompson and were rebuffed.

People would be fooling themselves if they don't understand that now Melo is going to do all the things in OKC he refused to do in NY like play defense, share the ball and respect a coach enough to play in their system or without breaking the play every other possession. He's going to be the best Melo, team oriented wise, we have ever seen, he's going to be Olympic Melo.
The player he resisted being in NY so he could continue to assert his egotistical control over the franchise will be on full display there.... and it will be salt in the wound of battered Knick fans to see him do it.

I do think they will be a good team, but not a championship team. Paul George falling for the catfish again.

Not really, at this point, I don't think he's capable of doing all thoe things. Alot of people forget that Melo has been the man on every team he's been on since high school. Sure in the olympic he had to cede the position but that was short periods. Will he be able to handle the transition for a full season? Time will tell.

If Melo does decide to play team-oriented there, it would just show that he was more of the problem then. The criticism of him playing in a system would be true.
I honestly don't even care that Melo was traded. I am just happy that the team can just play basketball without questions lingering about Melo's future and we can move forward. Melo was an offensively talented and gifted basketball player, but he was a stubborn dude and his lack of consistency on the defensive end was frustrating at times. With that said, I don't hate Melo, but he's now the enemy. So he's getting booed when our teams play each other.

If Melo is Olympic Melo it makes them a good team. However they still don't have a bench. To me I don't know if they can overcome that.

Yes, olympic Melo puts OKC in the conversation to come out of the west but I agree they may not have enough bench and balance to get past GSW or SAS though I think they may have leap frogged over the Rockets.
