He needs the transition game to get going. Like Simmons, he likes to play fast.
Except that Lonzo's transition game relies on outlet passes, so when teams actually rush back on transition D and cutoff those outlet passes like the Wolves have tonight, then his transition game becomes irrelevant.
Which then exposes his half court offence as he can't break down his man for drive and kicks or run pick and rolls (ran only 29 PnR's for whole college season, was the worst of all drafted PG's).
Simmons transition game isn't even comparable. He doesn't need to rely on outlet passes because he's a 1 man freight train on transition. Doesn't matter how quickly the opposition gets back on D, unless they have someone that can actually stop a 6'10 freight train that ran the 5th quickest recorded 3/4 time in the NBA (same time as pre injury D.Rose) with absolutely elite ball handling, then you ain't stopping his fast break transition.
And if they do somehow slow him down, he can actually break down his defender in half court offence(too fast for bigs, too big for guards) to score, or drive and kick. Or he can just defer to Fultz in the half court offence to run PnR's with Embiid which he is/was elite at (unlike Lonzo).
