Way too early for any real takeaways. I do like that the Lakers are serious about playing fast. It's really the only way to be effective with Lonzo out there in a major role.

Kuzma looks good...real good. Annoying that he came in and worked out for us, that we back into the 1st and didn't take him. Guess we didn't see it

Wiggins is....ehhh

Just finished watching the entire match. Ball looked out of sorts in defence. Lethargic and two steps behind where he needed to be.

You wouldn't know it based on the puff piece ESPN wrote about his debut. 2 for 9 isn't exactly elite and they got destroyed as a team.

He was a non-factor even though NBA.com/espn would have you believing otherwise. I will say that Kuzma has some game and Ingram is coming along.

Wiggins, man. I was hyped on him from HS-College but that Max contract is looking rough about now.
They say an analytics man doesn't have a heart, but I ran the numbers and nothing can be further from the truth - Sam Hinkie probably

Defensively, I thought he was not THAT bad. I also wanted Fultz to also get some swipes like Lonzo.

I don’t know man.. but Lonzo plays like Rondo that he’s great playing with momentum or with superior players. But as a main guy, I think you aren’t going far with him.

He is predictable. 2-3 dribbles pass. Pick and pop on halfcourt. Lead pass on transition.

Switch those screens and let him attack the big off the dribble. Teams would do that to MCW and that neutralized him.

I also think there are some limitations with his shot mechanics like maybe distance or shooting off the dribble.

Lonzo is a walking triple sound machine. I could see him averaging or being very close to averaging a triple double this season. Since people count stats if he does that he will win ROY even if Simmons plays as well as Giannis. Lonzo has 5 points and 7 rebounds and 8 assists. I can see him averaging 11 points 10 rebounds and 10 assists. He makes it look easy getting close to a triple double.

I think he could possibly get the assists part of it, but the rest would be tough. His shot still looks like it will be an issue with NBA level defense and he's not fast enough to beat his man off the dribble. I guess he could get the rebounds by default because the rest of his team is garbage. It would be a pretty empty triple double.

How good is Lonzo Ball in breaking down the D?

Also some of Lonzo's assists are ridiculous. Pass to Randle, puts the ball down the floor, goes into ISO mode, steps back and hits a fadeaway lefty.

Assist Lonzo Ball.

Not that good. He needs picks to get free. He's not a great ball handler either.

He's great when his teammates are getting free off screens, pace or when they're simply superior. But say when the defense plays with great length, physicality and pace on D, he looks limited. And in those situations, I think he needs a secondary playmaker (maybe Ingram) then let Ball take advantage of it via spacing or attacking close outs.

He needs multiple playmakers/scorers. Surround him with role players and he'll look like Ish/TJ with trust the process team.

I kinda play like him so I can relate. Except that he's much more athletic. :)

I think when he eventually gets his shooting touch back, he can attack close outs or close defenders, kinda like how perimeter oriented PGs like Patty Mills used to break down Ds.

but seriously...

DLo-Ingram-Tatum would have been nice trio. You can also insert Clarkson or Randle/Nance.

Clarkson
DLo
Ingram
Tatum
Randle

Right now, Lakers world is hoping on two things. LeBron to LAL in 2018 and Ball becoming a supeestar. Two things unlikely as outsider looking in.

Finally watched that Lakers-Twolves game. Lonzo's defense looked terrible.

Also Wiggins didn't look good at all. The Wolves better not give him a max.

Don't think they really have a choice, but I agree with you, count me out on Andrew Wiggins. But the Twolves ceiling as a team definitely depends on how fast Andrew Wiggins can stop being one dimensional.

I will always be irrationally high on Wiggins. But even I see the cracks....

The rare 5 negative defender lineup. They'd give up 150 a game. Ball movement would be pretty awful on offense too.
jonjames is a signature bet welcher.
