I don't know what the alternative is. But if you look at the contracts being signed, it's a scary scenario.
If he's going to be the lead scorer on a good team, he needs to develop that low post game. Otherwise, they're going to need to carefully consider their options in the off-season. Maybe somebody will make an offer that you can't refuse.
Emblid just got paid over what he did in like 30 games. The league has gone insane.

Me too, I'm going to be SAVAGE if I travel via BUS from Virginia to NY to see the Knicks and KP doesn't suit up. God I hope that doesn't happen.

Well, I agree with your outlook on the Embiid deal, to a degree. When it comes to young guys though, you pay them for what you think they will do in the future, not what they have done in the past.
KP has put on noticeable strength, and has improved his ballhandling. I do think that with continued base and core work, he could have a very steady post base in 2 years. I would have no issue paying him now with that expectation, since he already brings very good 2-way productivity. By the time he's 28, I think he will have been worth his deal.
At least that is how I would evaluate it.

Depends on how he's valued around the league next summer - and whether they come to believe that his upside is realizable, rather than a phantom in the distance.
I know that it was personally important for him to return home this summer, but it would have been better for his game had he worked with Hakeem or another big man coach. He doesn't have to live down low, but he has to be able to consistently exploit a size mismatch when presented with it - and use the low post game when his outside shooting is off.
We need him to become a consistent 25 point a game type player, with high scoring efficiency.

His strength will improve, but he needs time if he wants to add it more or less naturally and not put on much weight.
Again, I'am bringing up Gobert. Look back on how he looked when he was 21 and even 22 (KP donna be 22 going into this year), he was seriously lacking strength and was bullied by everyone.
Only at 23-24 he started to slowly become Gobert we are seeing now. Dude who dominates with his strength/athleticism.
And no, I will be hugely surprised if he scores 25 points per game this year. Only if he starts to chuck and ends up with awful efficiency.
3-4ppg increase with a little bit better efficiency should be expected reasonably.

He needed to add much more variety to his low post game in the off-season. A 7-3 guy should be unstoppable when guarded by a smaller player.
His long-range shooting is just not strong enough at this point to completely rely on it while leading a good team.
Get ready. That’s his price.

This is one of the key reasons I wasn’t against him being shopped.

Re: Porzingis thread #4: The KP era is upon us
Can KP leave as free agent in 2020 if he takes QO offer for 2019/2020 ?
So if he doesn't sign with any team but just takes QO? Or is that not how it works..?

you take the qo so that you can be an unrestricted free agent the following year.

Got it. I think KP will do that if Knicks situation doesn't improve...

He'll lose like $50M if he does that, so good luck to him.suka2000 wrote:Marty McFly wrote:suka2000 wrote:Can KP leave as free agent in 2020 if he takes QO offer for 2019/2020 ?
