I think Washington is super happy with the elite level role player they took 3rd overall in 2013. There's not a star talent at the top of every draft.

2013 was, as we all know now, a pretty bad draft. On top of that Porter can do a little bit of everything WITHOUT the ball. Ball needs the ball and can only do a few things. Completely different role player.

Also Kobble is making assumptions about this years draft. It was supposed to be extremely deep with multiple allstars so we'll see how it develops.

There is still plenty of time for Ball to fix his form but that will obviously come in the offseason (I suspect they will it's not like his shooting can get much worse).

The problem for me was I didn't think it was a smart idea to draft someone 2nd or 3rd where I knew somewhere along the line I would need to rebuild his shot. I put him in the 2nd tier with Issac. He's still a good prospect but there is no way he should have been 2nd overall. His was hyped there rather then getting there through substance because the Lakers should have taken Tatum or JJ.

They also had to move Russell to make room not Balls fault but basically this was a spinning your wheels type move.

Porter was a 3.9 VORP player last year.

Players taken in the last 5 drafts that have posted a season VORPing above 3:
- Porter
- Gobert
- Giannis
- Jokic
- Embiid *(on pace to if you extrapolated from his 31 games)
- Towns

I think Lonzo is just as safe a bet as being a stud as Porter was in 2013.

I mean, Lonzo is more probable than most to be one of those all-stars.

I don't and I wanted to offer Porter a max deal in the offseason,

The kid is nearly averaging a triple double as a 20 year old and was the best player on the court in a hyped marquee match-up against a playoff team with 3 max contract players on their roster.

I will promise you that Lonzo Ball will be one of the players in this draft that makes all-star teams.

A reciprocatory effect of a player maybe not getting deserved credit because of the noise the people around him, not the kid himself, creates.

I disagree with this statement. But give the kid credit for sticking with it.

Lonzo is putting up a whole lot of empty stats. His rebounds totals are not him grabbing contested boards. It's just Lopez and the rest of the Bigs boxing their guy out and him grabbing the board. He's averaging like one OREB a night and the Lakers are getting on average out rebounded 3 boards a night.

His passing is sick but it will be limited until he can dribble drive and draw defenders for open looks. He does do a bunch of things well. He gets his team organized early. He pushes the ball and runs the fast break extremely well. I like him as a player.

I don't like him as the 2nd overall pick. I never did. It's too early to prove either one of us wrong. He's been able to do more to help his teammates then I thought he would without a drive but his struggles shooting which really next to his lack of a dribble drive were my two biggest concerns have been sort of realized. He is going to have to remake his shot. Maybe the Lakers do it successfully and he becomes an perennial allstar but it's not a bet I'd be willing to take that early in the draft.

And even with all the Fultz stuff happening in regards to his shoulder and his shot. i'd still have things play out the same way.

I don't mean to say that he's the best player on either team.

I'm just saying that, of the players that hit the court last night, Lonzo had the strongest performance, as reflected by his game high plus/minus.

Ya and he had the worst plus minus the game before vs new orleans..

If u think lonzo is a future (deserving) all star then u must think ben is future hall of famer cuz everything lonzo does and is ben does bettet and is bigger faster stronger more athletic

Lonzos shooting numbers are beyond atrocioud and hes healthy

How anyone watches lonzo and sees anything other than a taller, less athletic and way worse defensive version of rajon rondo is beyond me

He looks like the worst athlete on the court in every game, gets empty rebounds, and passes the ball to shooters while playing zero defense

Lonzo not being as good as Ben is irrelevant to Ball still being a good player. Ball does a lot of good things on the court.

Tatum once again is looking really good tonight. One thing about the Celtics that they are better than us is outside shooting and foul shooting. Ben and Markelle aren’t good from the line. Hayward Tatum and Kyrie are.

As a team, the Celtics are just as bad as us from the free throw line.

We average 17 makes a game at 69% (29th in the league).
They average 16 makes a game at 71% (28th in the league).

I’m not looking at the team as a whole though. I’m only looking at guys who the ball will be in the most down the stretch. Hayward is out but he’s a decent ft shooter. Kyrie and Tatum are good. Down the stretch the ball will be in Ben’s and Markelle’s hands. They will get fouled. I was surprised Houston didn’t foul Ben on purpose down the stretch when they were down 8

Celtics probably didn't even need Hayward. Probably could have invested in a defensive big man to round out the lineup.
