Re: PG Thread: FRANK GANG GANG UNITE
Man is it refreshing to see the team play defense and move the ball. There was a pretty clear catalyst to it too which is exciting. The kids showed out tonight, KP was a franchise player on both ends while Frank came in and was an impact player on both ends. Willy got out there for a bit and did some good things as well. It's a season all about the kids, tonight shows you why that is.
KP: The unicorn was in full effect tonight. He was not about to accept athletic guys giving up 6 inches or more shutting him down. There were spurts where he forced things or settled for jumpers but he made up for them with some sheer brilliance. 30 pts, 9 boards, 3 blocks on 13 of 24 from the field and that was while the three ball failed him. But what made this a unicorn performance was KP's defense, his rotations were sharp and his man to man defense was effective. Dude changed a lot of shots in the paint and that two way potential could be what sets him apart from his fellow young promising bigs.
Jarrett Jack: Perhaps Ramon Sessions' futility might have made this performance a bit sweeter but Jack looked entirely serviceable. 8 pts, 5 asts, 7 boards...dude just found ways to make positive contributions. It wasn't perfect, the start was particularly stagnant for the offense but overall he was solid.
THJ: On a night where virtually everyone showed positive, Timmy was kind of a dud. He forced shots early, just awful selection but then he got some good looks as time went on with just as many bricks. He's gotta break the cold streak. 11 pts, 3 boards, 2 asts and at least he gave a bit of production in other areas rather than absolutely nothing. He seems like he's beating himself up out there and in postgames, dude just has to focus on positive impacts regardless of his shooting.
Lee: 13 pts, 3 boards, 1 ast and 3 for 6 from the three point line. On a lot of nights, there isn't too much to say about this guy because you know what expect. He's a solid, reliable presence.
Kanter: Started really badly, with some forces and getting beat down the floor. Hornacek gets respect for benching this guy off that really ugly start. The move lit a fire under him and his second half play was pretty damned inspired. 6/8 12 pts, 6 boards and 2 blocks mostly compiled in the third quarter. Probably his worst play in the first followed by his best in the third.
Frank: It felt like the momentum shifted our way more and more the longer he stayed out there. 9 pts, 5 asts, 2 boards with 3 TO's. His game is silky smooth, he sees the whole floor. Dude is QB like scanning the floor as if he's going through the progressions. He did take some time to find his jumper and make some bad TO's but that's rookie life. The real shining bit from his game is defense. He gets over screens, knows when to rotate and challenges shooters by going straight up with that massive reach. Those deflections he seemed to keep getting, that was a staple of virtually every game I've watched dude too from France to now. Just think, he's the same age as some kids waiting to start their Freshman seasons.
KOQ: I felt he started the game a bit low energy on defense. Offensively he was open inside twice and the wings just missed him. But then Frank got in and this dude started to pick it up. He got more touches and made some perfect passes, got more active on D and his rebounding was unstoppable. 4 pts, 12 boards, 3 asts. So far he's played really well.
McDermott: The three ball started to fall for him (new PG's, new shooter). 4 for 6 from the field for 12 points and added 5 boards. I thought the spacing was at it's best in the second quarter when Doug and THJ paired with KOQ receiving the ball near the top of the key to look for cutters. He's growing on me.
Willy: 4 pts, 4 boards in 13 minutes plus 2 steals overall a much better defensive performance than we've seen lately. He passes the ball nicely and has always had really great instincts. I was a bit surprised that Zeller kinda bodied him a few times though. He needs to get developmental time but it's gonna be hard if Kanter and KOQ play how they closed this game out.
Lance: Got 6 minutes out there and played some defense. He had Frank pass him the ball instead of take a TO when dribbling out the clock. Dude is way more likeable when he's not playing enough minutes to drive you crazy.
Dotson: In six minutes he moved off the ball well and got some good looks but couldn't knock them down. His effort on defense is visible and he gets around the ball on boards every time out. Can't say too much in the short time.
Horny: Something had to change and Jeff made changes. He started a new PG, put one of the rotation players in a suit and benched a productive Center for lazy play. All of that seemed to spark the team along with the presence of a distributor like Frank. He put the clean up crew in to get them minutes at a good time and he found almost fifteen minutes for Willy which is good to see. The fact he was willing to ride the rookie's momentum when the kid was producing gives me a sigh of relief. The Nets came in as the highest scoring team in the league and the Knicks locked them up well...He had a good game, no jokes tn.

Last year said Dragan Bender will not be anything like KP... impacting the game from the start because I didn't trust the league he was playing in Europe, I said Juancho will be good because of the ACB league and he is showing a lot of promise now.
This year's draft I was all over Frank, was hoping that Kings pick him up, but it was not happening so I said it was the right pick for the Knicks.
Never doubt me about this.![]()
How are you going to say all that and not bring up future Knicks great Doncic??
What's your thoughts? Feel free to use as much hyperbole as possible.
Already had this question.JohnWillow wrote:Top pick in the draft easily, haven't seen the college guys yet like Ayton and Bagley, but I would easily take Doncic over all of them right now, especially Porter JR, the things he is doing in Euroleague at age of 18 is unseen, he is that good.
As I said I still want to see what Ayton and Bagley are doing in the college this year, but right now Doncic is number 1 for me.
Agreed. He's bananas. What he's doing at his age is unprecedented. Maybe Sabonis.

Just wait until him and KP get into the P&R often.

Oh I know this one! Is it Calderon is hispanic/white while the other two are black?

I'm afraid he did wake up, last season with Atlanta was a dream.

Not gonna go that far, because my father was able to see Sabonis while playing in the Soviet Union, and he said to me that he was the greatest complete player of all time he has seen, passing, shooting touch, length, speed, rebounding and his IQ... of course my old man didn't see Jordan lmao
Doncic obviously is in my TOP 3 European prospects of all time, Sabonis, Drazen Petrovic and then Doncic, because how they dominated the competition at very young age in the European leagues.
Celtics fan.
We also face the Kings twice in the near future. I think it's time Yabu pays back some of that free money he's been given his entire career and bounces Fox for a nice 2 week ankle sprain.

The kid is poised, centered and smart. Unusual gifts and leadership seems to be one of them.
If he can develop his offense as time goes on, sky is the limit.

I said something similar in the game thread. All he is doing is scanning and looking to play make. You can literally see him check the spot of every Knick Player on the floor. Dude is heady as fucck. Super Lolz at the dude is a SG.
