Some of us here just understand his limitations, no one here is bad mouthing him just for the sake of it. The criticisms of Brook on this board in the last couple of years are legit and reasonable, and for every time he got criticised he was also praised for all the good he did.

Just because some of us (with reason) criticised Brook for what he is doesn't mean we didn't appreciate him.

Exactly. Just about everyone other than Lebron has limitations. It's not heresy to point out that there are a few things our new centers have done better than Lopez. We can appreciate everything Lopez (and Joe J for that matter) did well while acknowledging they weren't perfect players.

I hear a lot more complaining about what he couldn't do than praise for what he did. In the past it was warranted, but last year he expanded his range to 3 point territory and made 100 3's when prior to the season he only made 8.
Fans harped on his limitations just look in this thread and you can see that from Prok, Netaman and Hello Brooklyn.
If I didn't praise him feels like he wouldn't get any...

For the best center this franchise has had in the past 30+ years he didn't get enough credit (his last year here is what I'm talking about) just like Kidd, Joe Johnson didn't.

You can tell Allen is still getting his sea legs. he isnt nearly as active or aggressive as he was in college. once he is more comfortable i think we will see much better play from him. in college he finished everything and was all over the floor. you can see the hesitation now. once he gains confidence with where he should be it will make a difference

Ok and he was praised for expanding his range, nobody doubts how much more valuable he was as an offensive weapon when he started nailing 3s.

Nobody doubts his offensive prowess, the complaints always was because of his defensive and rebounding deficiencies.

I don't think you can say that Kidd didn't get enough credit when he's regarded as the best(or at least top 3) player ever to don a Nets uniform. JJ too got a lot of love, during a time where our supposed "franchise" player just didn't give a damn, JJ was one of a maybe 3 players actually playing their heart out. I don't think much (if any) posters in here would not give JJ the respect he deserves.

Didn't see him regularly in college so I wonder how much of his bad hands are from nerves / adjusting the NBA pace vs. it being something that'll be difficult to correct. A lot of the shots he's missing are from poor catches where he lets the defense reset. Would'v been easy dunks if he just caught it cleanly. I'm hoping it's nerves because it's not easy to correct.

He looks like a deer caught in the headlights, especially offensively. He shows flashes, but he's just not ready.

Yeah aside from the Blocks and the Dunks, I haven't liked what I've seen from him. He's green as hell. But those flashes you mentioned helped me see his long term potential. I wasn't very high on him over the summer but He's growing on me.

Fair point about Brook.

Kidd on the other hand didn't get the props he deserved, some say it's because NJ is a small market but I don't buy that. He was arguably an MVP his first year with the Nets. The league, media never gave him his props though because of his attitude.
I judged him by what he did on the court and he was amazing, off the court that's his personal life.

Joe Johnson had a good 4 years with the team the last wasn't good but the bigger problem was the coach and bad management. People here (MDB) didn't like his isolation play but that was the coach's decision so I can say it after all it's my opinion.

This is just my opinion and isn't meant to offend anyone.

Ahh ok fair, I thought you meant Kidd was not getting props amongst Nets fans. I agree that he should've been MVP in his first year considering the 26-win swing that he was a major part of, but at the end of the day he came 2nd in MVP voting to a prime Duncan, who was arguably the best player in the league at that time, that's absolutely nothing to be ashamed of.

Agree, it definitely wasn't him and more to do with our management/coaching, as when he did play he gave his heart to the cause unlike "that franchise player". I think this Nets board in particular (I can't speak for the other sites) always has love for JJ since he was the only one who gave a **** during that era.

(Just an FYI, don't worry about the blue font, don't think anybody here is offended  )

I'm not holding my breath, but if Allen can actually develop a legitimate & reliable skyhook, I may start looking forward to our matchups against Philly

Soul Glo, the Afro Samurai - The Official Jarrett Allen Thread

Post#978 » by Paradise » Tue Nov 21, 2017 9:18 pm

He’s brilliant for this.

Image

Back in September, Allen gave out free haircuts in Brooklyn, and on Monday he partnered with Key Food and visited Jackson Heights in Queens to help 25 middle schoolers from Elmcor Youth and Adult Activities do some last minute Thanksgiving shopping. Rather than handing out turkeys, long a great holiday tradition, Allen gave each of them a $70 budget, a shopping list and a cart.

So think of it as almost “A Scavenger Hunt With Jarrett Allen,” but with a lot of food and a budget.

“I just want to show the people that I care,” Allen told NetsDaily shortly after beginning his shopping cart with greens and stuffing, and after playfully writing in “collard greens,” which (somehow) weren’t already on the list.

“The importance I show (by doing this) is that we’re more than basketball players. We actually care about what’s going on in the community and in the world.”

The sample shopping list —entitled “Jarrett Allen’s Thanksgiving Grocery List”—separated dessert, produce, meats, dairy/refrigerated beverages and other elements of a holiday meal (i.e. gravy mix, and Allen’s Thanksgiving day favorite - mac and cheese!).

The sheet also included a budget box on the bottom of the sheet for the kids to do the math to distribute their $70 in really whatever way they want. Participants also received pencils and calculators for their journey through the supermarket.

He gets it. When you have a platform to help people, you shouldn't hesitate to do it.

Also, this helps to build the team's fanbase at a grass roots level, you have to engage potential fans when they're young. You don't convince 20-30-40-50 year olds to start rooting for your team. that's why we still have problems with getting cheered against on our own homecourt.
