Official Tim Hardaway JR Thread

Post#1 » by islanders11040 » Wed Nov 1, 2017 5:43 am

IDK if im the only one but low key hes starting to win me over a bit. I see the previous "welcome thj" thread was closed so figured we should have an official one to talk about him in general.

His stats currently suck but its trending up. Dude seems very focused this season. Hes putting it waaaaay more effort on defense compared to the last time he was a Knick. His play mostly comes down to whether or not he decides to take good or bad shots. The new development ive been impressed with the most is how hes been attacking the rim. And hes actually passing too, averaging 4.3 assists during this 3 win streak! Well done timmy.

Hes been vital to our last 2 wins. Was on fire during the Cavs game and had 13 huge points in the 4th quarter to hold off the Nuggets when they were threatening.

Of course he can just tank it after this post and this thread can become the official "THJ HATE" thread, but until then.....

I'll repeat what ive been saying. He's pretty much going to be like Starks, he will win us some games with his shooting, he will lose us some games with his shooting.

Side note, but I never understood how he can be a Hardaway and not do the UTEP 2 Step. Like you gotta pull that out at least 1 time.

Hardaway has been decent with his defense. His offense is coming along. He needs to be more consistent. He's an ideal 6th man. Not a starter.

His willingness to pass in the first half of the Denver game was very encouraging. I need more of that, more work on the glass and better efficiency. It’ll be interesting how he approaches his rematch against Harden. Last season he singlehandedly smashed the Rox in a legendary fourth quarter on TNT. Let’s see what Air Streaky does for an encore.

More drives, less chucking threes, and hes gonna be really good.

This. He needs to work on getting to the rim. We don't have enough of that. Basically...no one besides KP does much driving to the rim. With Frank being a perimeter set up man right now...we need Timmy to pick up that slack.

Side note: Frank isn't starting yet but, he's getting closer. He needs to work on the offensive side of his game like he did tonight. He's too cerebral on that side of the ball. Needs too loosen up and trust his instincts/shot. Baby steps. I really think he will pick that end up with time. Then he'll be starter material without question.

Go NY go NY go!

His drives are top notch. Moar. And his fast break acceleration is elite which he has put to good use with the game on the line several times.

His last minute three tonight was studly, I have to admit

Definitely a new player, compared to who he was with us.

Very inconsistent...

One out of every four games is a good one from him

As long as he brings that heart and intensity that Starks has then I’m good with that. I’ve made the same comparison as well.

His shot selection scares me, especially the crunch time decisions, but I'm hopeful he'll improve. Late in games, I would love for him to stop relying on the three and go hard on the dribble drives. He's good at attacking downhill and will draw fouls that help protect a lead. That said, he's been rebounding and playmaking to go with solid defense (mental lapses keep me from paying it a bigger compliment). He's two or three forced shots away from being highly efficient to go with the rest of his production.

Except that Starks was an elite defender, who received votes for DPOY. Timmy has been better on defense than expected, but it's still a bit of a stretch to call him even an average defender.

On offense I agree. His streakiness will be a double-edged sword for us. The comparison I've making making is 2013-2014 JR Smith without the crazy.
