At the end of the day, people live in the cities. That's why Russia (which is #1 in landmass) is not the most powerful country in the world.
here's the thing though. and this is what the new tax reform is all about.
1. people dont just 'live in cities."
2. It started with a very very very small town. and local farming and "jobs" to eat. and minor carpentry. financing wasnt needed.
3. then came a single manufacturing plant, which required financing (even if self).
4. then people moved closer to those jobs.
5. which created a bigger demand for housing and infrastructure. local taverns, gold smiths, clothing stores, etc
6. which created more jobs
7. which compelled even more people move to the cities.
8. cities got bigger. tariffs were imposed by the federal government. "
Income Tax" wasn't even a law until at its earliest and briefly in 1861 to pay for the war. then not reintroduced until
1913 (16th amendment) only 100 years ago!!!!!!!!9.
But At this point, its all about taxes. In the modern era and in front of all of that is financing for the infrastructure. financing for the manufacturing. large corporations have been subsidized by cities like Oak Brook near me and now the mayor of Chicago is doing the same thing for businesses in Chicago Proper where major tax breaks are given to large corporations.T.I.F. zones etc. which amounts to Tax free financing with tons of other subsidies built into it to pay for the manufacturing infrastructure. Sports Arenas often paid for by cities on the back of the tax payer combined with sweetheart tax deals going forward. Cities "recoup" with sales taxes and "entertainment tax" on tickets.
It's corporate welfare and these democratic mayors of these large cities are all about it. All effing about it!!! nearly every sports team and their billionaire owners get their stadium bought and paid for by the public. disgusting!!!
back on Point:1. the republican tax reform is
attempting to take on this entire model. and good for them!!!
2. by removing state and local tax exemptions and interest exemptions as well as other subsidies where expensive and high tax cities are subsidized by the rest of the country.
You know. That entire rest of the country that is entirely red on the map.3. The rest of the country doesn't pay outrageous mortgages.
4. Nor own expensive property. so they have little to no real estate tax write off.
5. little to no "mortgage interest" write off as their homes cost $50K and less. They dont have outrageous student loan debt because they live in their small town and maybe went to an inexpensive junior college.
So why do city folk with their outrageous student loan debt (and high interest)? with their outrageous mortgage (interest)? and their outrageous property tax?
why do these city folk get these massive write offs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and you guys think that's fair? A plumber or carpenter or police officer or teacher in small town america might have $5000.00 write off in interest from all of those sources. yet a City person in Chicago like me has upwards of 30,000 in write off from my property taxes and interest. Why is that fair!!!???
republicans are saying. If you cant afford the expensive city then move out of the city!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and i'm a city dweller!!! I benefit largely from these write offs. But I believe in fairness. I already make more money because jobs in cities pay higher. that higher pay is suppose to offset the higher taxes and cost of living. and my real estate appreciates and substantially higher rates than small towns. so i make more money 2 ways. Why do I also get a bigger tax break on my high taxes and higher interest payments!!!???
that's what republicans are saying. and even though it costs me more money, i agree with them.
In theory, more people should move out of these cites. which are over crowded anyway. that's the plan. it's fair. I like it. even though I will personally lose some major tax advantages.
Even more interesting is that even though the corporate rates are dropping from 40% to 20% in the GOP house bill, corporations lose their ability to write off state and local real estate taxes as well. So what we are going to see is these corporations move their "jobs" from cities to small towns in less expensive states like Texas and Florida with no state income tax and vey low real estate taxes. To small towns.
Get ready for it! its coming!!!
Cities will go flat broke trying to subsidize to keep up. or worse, make the cost of living so outrageous that only the truly elite wealthy types will be able to afford their smug city attitudes.

I cant wait!!
like i said, its a full rebuild.
