What are we defining as a playoff team ? After watching the Knicks thus far this season, I think they’re a team that can hover around .500 all season long(depending on KP’s health). We don’t know what the magic number is to get into the playoffs, but if they’re playing .500 basketball then they’ll definitely be in contention for at least an eighth seed. I don’t think the schedule has been THAT friendly early on either, but regardless of what one makes of it, they’ve taken care of business in all of those games.

are people complaining that this team is only good at home?

remember we are a summer removed from being an unwatchable team at home and on the road, with a coach people thought couldn't teach, a star who was being traded for scraps, another star who skipped his exit interview and was suddenly looking like trouble and a buck of overpaid bums

now we have a top nba talent in KP showcasing his game, a team full of hard workers supporting him, a coach who has the players playing the right way and trusting each other and a fan base having fun

so we dont make the playoffs
so we aren't good on the road but were pretty good at home

so what?

I can see 30-40. This team is still raw and going through learning the NBA, but I don't see 6th and under in the Lotto. I see getting knocked out of the playoffs by a couple of wins. Now people brought up a comparison to last years team, but there's a huge difference to this one, We actually play defense now. Teams aren't averaging 120 points against us and defense is starting from the top. Jack may not be the best but he can hold his own, Timmy has greatly improved his defense, I was noticing that at the end of last season. Lee is an above average defender. KP is a top ten defender and top 5 shot blocker. frank is in the top ten in steals per game. K'O averages a block per game, if he controlled his dumb fouls maybe this can go up. Dame is an excellent defender, if it weren't for THJ and Lee he would get double the minutes and really shine. Dougie has been the biggest surprise, I thought we were getting discount double check 2.0. then of course we have Noah, well half. he still can defend very well down low, but don't expect him to close out.

Overall I can see this team truly contending by next year after a couple of players get their feet wet. In this upcoming draft if we can pick up Bridges or Knox in the next draft then we would be set.

Mid to high 30 wins may get u in the playoffs in the east. But that is not what this is about. We can't tank like and get a top 3 pick unless kp gets injured anyway. It's about building a foundation and starting to build a competitive culture in our team.

I think a top 10 pick can get you the second best, maybe our preferred, SF in the draft which I expect we'll target. Bigs and PGs are more coveted. Kuzma went 27th, our scouts will find a player.

Wasn't Donovan Mitchell taken in the later part of the first round. I also like OG Anunoby and he was picked late too, wasn't he?

14th I think. There's always good players to be found.

Almost feels like KP should sit out at least half of the road games because he sucks in most of them.

we need a pick at least in the 8-12 range, big time. and really hope we can flip lee, whg and kyle for some shorter contracts and picks.

Playoffs or no playoffs - it all on KP. Hornacek is an obstacle though.

This team as constructed is going to live and die with KP.

If he’s healthy then the Knicks are a top 10 team. If he’s not then the Knicks are a bottom 10 team. If he’s in the middle then the Knicks are in the middle. Simple as this.

This team compliments KP pretty well but is awful without him being killing it.

most picks out of the top 3 or 5 is a crap shoot. Look at history and the percentages.

The East is good this year, you might need an above .500 record to make the playoffs. On one hand if Knicks don't make playoffs they will have a better pick but if they barely get in they probably won't have pick an impact player in the draft.

If they are able to make the playoffs they might convince a big time player to sign with them.

It is not. Hopefully the management will recognize this before the trade deadline and get us some young assets for veterans.

The Knicks only have one veteran player that's worth trading for, and that's Lee. He's a role player that doesn't carry much value either.

Wait till allstar break before making any legitimate predictions. This is way too early.

So far it looks like we are a borderline playoff team. Besides KP, alot depends on our PG play. Jack is old and Frank is too raw to consistently make a big impact.

We aren't bad enough for the number 1 pick or ready to compete for a championship, this is that in-between phase where the team is learning to win together and growing as a core. It's up to the front office now to make smart picks mid lottery, good free agent signings and trades to not end up on the dreaded treadmill.

For now I'm just happy we don't completely suck , that would mean we are back to square one
