To become a real star he’s going to need to develop some go to moves to create/Attack the basket against a set defense. For someone as gifted as he is physically and athletically he’s been settling for a lot of jumpers. I’ve been pleased with his improvement though

I think that's selling AGs physical tools short. He won't be a superstar but I see no reason why he can't end up a star a la Demar DeRozan or Jimmy Butler. Kid is still only 22 and I can see him contuously adding to his game.

Those guys were perimeter guards with superior handles compared to AG coming into the league. AG struggles to keep a consistent dribble against anyone who is athletic enough to guard him. I always believed his hooting could improve... But dribbling/playmaking is one of those attributes you can't drastically change after a few years. I can always be wrong and he can surprise me. But he seems too uncomfortable being given that role any time soon.

DeRozan could barely dribble when he came into the league. Now he looks like Kobe. Aaron has a solid foundation, works hard and is young. Just give it time.

Demar coming in was a guy with an advanced offensive game and had scouts saying he'd become a star (which he did). His dribbling wasn't elite, but it was good enough for him to create his own shot. Gordon is a player who was compared to kenneth faried and with barely any basic offensive skills. Right now he's still working on his jumpshot and it's year 4 with little offensive ability that isn't even average at this point, which includes his dribbling.

During the five game losing streak 80% of his attempts are from 10 ft or greater... 1st on the team in jumpshot attempts and 7th in attempts in the paint during that span. It's like he's just trying to prove he can shoot or something. Whether he likes it or not it's his athleticism that sets him apart.... his athleticism is what allowed him to average 16+ efficient points without needing the ball much and without having much of a 3pt shot after the all star break last season. He can't forget that no matter how much his shot improves or what his role is.... 4th option or 1st option, doesn't matter, he needs to use that athleticism. His defense has also been disappointing. With his struggles on offense you'd think he'd step up on D, but he's not. Seems all he wants to do is grab a rebound, so he can try to score. Hopefully the coaches get him back on the right path soon because we're not winning without his hustle on both ends.

defensive box plus minus +0,3, by stats he is as good defender as Greg Monroe hah
What makes it worst is how he doesn't block any shots. At all. John Wall has almost twice as much blocks than him.
He is solid man to man defender, if that man doesn't post up and only settles for jumpers. Thad Young was 5-5 against him in first quater alone. But overall his impact on defense really isn't big. Rudy Gay this year, under Popovich plays better defense than Aaron, and it's not even close .

The lack of defense and rebounding from him are unacceptable. He may be a PF on the depth chart but he still plays like his SF role from last year. Only difference is he was hitting 3s at an abnormal rate. Like OrlandO said, he isn't taking us anywhere if he does not tap into his athleticism on a more consistent basis.

Guy that does orlandomagic daily podcst was ranting how Gordon takes 60% of rebounds from Vučević

He probably has Vuc on his fantasy team...
Both of those guys have not been good on the boards at all this season.

8 is pretty decent for a smaller PF I think.

Yes it is. I should have elaborated. Vuc overall hasn't been good on the boards for the season. 8.1 boards for AG is good but I feel he can do more especially on the offensive glass.

Ah, definitely agree then. Just needs to play balls to the wall on that end (just not doing dumb over the back stuff). But some teams don't crash the offensive boards as a strategy. I haven't really paid much attention to us, but I feel like only a few of our players really go hard on that end, the rest don't so they can get back in transition.

He does steal a couple uncontested rebounds from Vuc every game now. He'll come flying in out of no where. I'd like to see him use that athleticism to go after blocks or contested rebounds more. Went from leading the team in contested rebound percentage in October to being last among frontcourt players in November (yup, behind speights and hezonja). I get it... getting the board means he gets to push the ball himself and look for an opening to score.... unfortunately teams have figured out they need to get back on defense quickly against us so he isn't really having success in that regard anymore. If he wants to go after those rebounds that's fine with me, but as our best athlete and one of our best defenders he needs to do more than just track the basic rebound opportunities. Help get the stop first.. fight for rebounds... then worry about offense. With the way AG is playing lately on both ends he might as well be playing SF again... bring in Isaac to play garbage man PF if AG doesn't want to anymore.

I think Evan's comments broke him. AG is all about being a team player. He doesn't want the appearance that he's putting himself above the team. We haven't seen the same player ever since.

Re: Do you think Aaron Gordon will emerge as a breakout star this year?
It’s great that his 3 PT shooting has improved and his form says it’s the legit result of hard work. He’s probably felt (and read and heard) that that was the BIG missing piece in his game. He now seems to be struggling to integrate it most effectively...not as a Stretch 4 but as a threat from anywhere...even more extreme example of benefits of a 3 would be EP...if Elf could just hit a couple early 3’s, it would open up his drives...AG is pretty balanced now (relax...I didn’t say he was complete) in terms of inside/outside, but it still has to be integrated better.
If we don’t see Isaac playing next to him soon, I’d consider trading AG while his value is high. He’s a very good player, but they play the same spot...I’d like to try the Isaac at 3 experiment first but...
