OT: Quick question about learning Spanish

I'm learning Spanish using flashcards. What should be the front of the card, the English or Spanish? I seem to remember the answers better when I first look at the Spanish side first and then try to translate them into English. Is that fine?

I used to use Duolingo but it just got too time consuming. I think flash cards are a quicker and easier way to learn.

The only good thing about Rosetta Stone is their marketing. Don't ever buy it if you seriously want to learn a language.

As for flashcards, it depends on how you like to learn and whether your primary goal is speaking or understanding others/media. I like to put English on the back.

When I was in high school (graduated from F'dale in '76), we asked our Spanish teacher, Mr. Dugan (who was also my soccer coach) if he'd ever been to Spain. He said "No. But I've been to Brentwood."

I grew up on pine st in what I think is N. Brentwood -not sure, we were one of the last two white families on the block. Though depending on who you ask Italian isn't always considered white LOL. My next-door neighbor was Puerto Rican and his rooster was my alarm clock 5:30 every morning without fail, but nice family they always had extra eggs to share.

Then we moved east to Coram, and no roosters but the neighborhood was similar. We were surrounded by a large parcel of woods that was county owned that for some reason wasn't allowed to be developed. But people used that land to hide sins that had no expiration date.

But back to the original Brentwood reference, yeah lots of fine azz Latinas. But I moved away before that became important, Longwood encompassed 6 towns so we weren't lacking in the fine heinas either.

My best advice to you is to put down the index cards and immerse yourself in the language as much as possible. Their are Two programs I recommend the first is a free one from learner.org a show called Destinos in their foreign language section. It is 52 episodes long and it will train you to understand Spanish spoken from Mexico, Spain, Puerto Rico and Argentina. It's done in a tela novela style with a lot of English narration in the beginning to help explain things to you and they slowly start to drop the English as you progress to the end where they stop using it completely.

The second one you have to pay for. It is a site called glossika where they have Spanish sentence course where a native speaker says the sentence in English followed by a native speaker of Spanish translating what he said into Spanish and repeating it twice. I think the price of the program is like $30.00

Now these will help you to understand the language. But if you want to speak Spanish then you have to speak Spanish so find a native speaker who will be willing to help you out. They say it takes something like a 1000 repetitions for your brain to master a new word and for you to pronounce it correctly. So the more people you can practice talking to the better.

I worked for ADP’s brokerage services in the heartland district, which became Broadridge, my first 10 years out of college. They had two huge mailing houses on the other side of their office space and both employed about 90% Hispanic folks.

So many beautiful women who didn’t speak English well but were good at their job. A lot of dudes got with girls that were way out of their league .

Was pine st the exit off the Sag? It’s been a while since I’ve been out there.

English is one of the simplest languages in the world.

I guess your right. For some reason, I seem to recall people saying that about English because of conjugating verbs, and word variations based on tense and use. But I just looked at a list of the most difficult ones and I can see that you're right.

Albanian is no. 6.
