If we do not keep enough capspace for him, then we will be limited to 2 cheap years as opposed to 4 cheap years.
We own his rights so we don’t need cap space to sign him. I don’t understand your point about 2 years vs 4 years. We could sign him for 2 or 4 years regardless of our cap situation.

you are incorrect in saying “we can sign him to 2 or 4 Years regardless of our cap situation”. Teams with capspace are able sign 2nd rounders to a contract with more than 2 Years.
This was something Hinkie always maximised capspace to sign 2nd rounders or UDFA to longer than 2Year minimum deals. He did it with Richaun, TJ and Jerami and has worked so far. He tried to do it with McDaniels but McDaniels did not want to be locked up long-term.
Take 2017 for example:
BOS had capspace and liked Semi Ojeleye’s potential so they locked up for 4 Years of cheap 2nd round value.
GS on the other hand had no capspace or available exceptions so they could only lock up Jordan Bell for 2 Years at cheap 2nd round value, even though they paid $3.5M for the pick.
I’m sure there is some sites that references this but just thought it was common knowledge among Process trustees since Hinkie exploited this more than any other GM.
