So I guess there’s multiple reports that he’s going to change his shooting hand this offseason. I, personally, think that’s going to be a waste of time, but I hope he can pull it off.

You would think if this was true he would already be shooting right hand in practice?

I mean there is not much use practicing left hand as he just doesn't shoot at all at the moment... he may as well be practicing right.

Why do you think its a waste of time? I see a lot of potential benefits: his right handed shot has less elbow flair, he loads up his base like he is right handed anyway (more weight on his right foot/right foot slightly forward), and his shot seems to have more natural arc right handed. Now, I've seen 4 right hand free throws and I suddenly think I'm Chip England but thats neither here nor there.

Because he’s spent his entire life shooting left handed and it will likely never feel natural aside from maybe spot up shooting.

Look, if he can do it, I’ll be psyched, but I am right hand dominant (layups, dribbling) and shoot jump shots left handed too, and it would feel extraordinarily weird to all the sudden be a right handed shooter.

Isn't he friends with Tristan Thompson or something? They mentioned it on one of the broadcasts. He did the same thing, ie switched shooting hands. It will be weird for him, its not just the stroke but getting into position. That's a massive adjustment. Still, his shot is all over the place currently so I can't see it being a worse option.

The glimmer of hope is that Ben doesn't have as much jumpshot muscle memory built up compared to the usual player. If anyone can successfully make a switch, it will probably the guy as close to a blank canvas as possible. Which I think Ben is.

I definitely think it is an off-season thing. It is going to make it worse in the short term so he needs to do it when he isn’t playing in games.

If they have really made the determination that he should switch hands then the goal for the summer should probably be to get him to the point when he is as good as he is now, but with the other hand. Just successfully make the transition. Then later they can hope to actually improve his results.

It will be a long road.

It's most definitely going to be the off-season where he does the majority of the work, but given he is currently shooting ZERO jumpers at the moment (In the last 5 games anyway) there is nothing to mess up. If he was taking jumpers I would say don't touch it... but it seems like he has no intention at the moment to do so.

i like him not taking jumpers. he is smart and knows the areas where he sucks. he would hurt the team and knows it. dont know why some people want him to take some "for his developement". he can and will develope in practice.

what i hate with him, he sometimes refuse to finish at the rim when driving. he has some highlight-dunks at one moment, and at another drive, he looks like a pussy and throws the ball away, because hes not wide open at the rim. he needs to learn to attack aggresively and draw fouls. and i think there is some reason to think, he refuse to draw fouls after that hack-a-ben game

He does take foul shots though, and you would have to change the hand on those too.

To be honest, up to the point where I saw that video of him shooting free throws right handed, I would have thought it impossible for him to switch hands. His form definitely looks cleaner and more natural though from the right hand side so I do believe that he will have more success from that side now, and his ambidexterity is amazing.

Switching will probably be easier for him than 90% of the guys that have ever switched.

Yeah someone in that thread quoted what they actually said:

Calm down. That title is misleading.

Ramona Shelburne: "I don't think Ben Simmons is going to be shooting with his left hand on three-pointers next year. I think he'll be shooting right handed."

Lee Jenkins: "When you sit with people who would know, you know people even with the Sixers, I think everybody sort of sees that mechanically he's better shooting right-handed. So, I think that's a place that they might go. I don't think he's ready to think about that yet or talk about that yet, but I definitely think that could become you know storyline in the summer, and I think it is one way to potentially get around the confidence game and the mental game."

With Embiid out tomorrow I'd like to see take over and go strong to the tin. If they collapse on him he'll find the open guy for sure.

I went with what the title said. There was no clarification in the thread at the time I posted in here. Figured it was worth the discussion.

Yeah no worries, just confused me, almost listened to those podcasts again lol.

Sort of a reminder of how easy misinformation can spread, I guess.

Its more a reps thing than anything else, as it pertains to the shot. Manu has the same exact shooting motion. Simmons just needs to be more fluid in his approach.

His legs are too stiff, even on free throws, and he needs to use his shoulders more. When he shoots now its all wrist.

I mean, it cant get worse than it is now... it literally cant

so why not, something needs to be done if he truly wants to be a great player

needs to get better at finishing contested layups, and needs to get the mental stuff right with always being in attack mode and not evan turner corner standing mode at times
