glad you're holding onto that dream of DSJ being a good idea.

DSJ has a looooooooong way to go to be mentioned in the same breath as kemba. insulting to kemba really.

never said he's on the level of him now. just saying smith is mad similar to him and looks to be in the mold of kemba/lillard.. etc.

i appreciate you explaining what you mean. i don't think your words read that way though.

oh my bad. I'll edit it for clarification

Sort of. That suggested trade package would warrant an immediate dismissal of the entire FO. 2 1st rd picks Kanter and Frank for Kemba? No fuggin way! Kanter for Kemba straight up? Sure. Otherwise...kick rocks!

Would you say the same about Dame Lillard? because they're practically identical statistically the past 3 years...

Dame and Kemba aren’t on the same level

I would take Dame over Kemba 10 times outta 10 without question

I agree. Like I said earlier, him and Dame have almost identical numbers over the past 3 years and even if you give Dame the slight edge offensively, Kemba has always been a more focused defender than Dame has. Whether it's through trade (as long as it's reasonable and doesn't involve Frank or Kp obviously) or FA I would welcome Kemba with open arms.

Dame is a full rung above Kemba. I would be all about getting Walker here, but def not at OP price. Lillard is a better shooter. FT% highlights that fact. TS%, eFG% show the disparity between the guys. Could Kemba continue improving as a shooter? I suppose.. but Lillards near 90% ft suggests that he will age gracefully whereas Kemba, as soon as he loses a step, will no longer be able to generate space he needs, lift he needs, and take the beating he does.

As for defense, Lillard IIRC is bigger, has a better frame for defense. Kemba is more like AI in terms of defense. He gets steals/fast breaks but his man to man will be a ? It's similar to Isaiah Thomas in that regard. On draft day, I don't think I would send any of our current picks, but if they wanted some other pieces it could be arranged. Depending on Franks evolution, perhaps JUST him along with Kantar would be a deal to discuss. Right now we don't really know what we have in Frank. Is he Rondo with a 3? Or is he Mardy Collins with a 3?

Yes Lillard has better measurables for defense but he hasn't really ever given any effort on that end since he's been in the league and most of his metrics for that end have him as one of the worst pg defenders in the league in the past few seasons. Kemba does have a physical disadvantage on that end and he can get screened off at times because of how small he is, but he's got great instincts and you're going to get mostly great effort from him every night.

And yeah sure Lillard scores a tad bit more but efficiency wise they're almost exactly the same.

Lillard the past 3 years (Cumulatively) is at 25.9/6.4/4.6 on 43/36.8/90 splits and a 57% TS%

Walker is at 21.8/5.4/4.1 on 43.3/37.8/85.1 splits and a 56% TS% over the same time span.

I don't think that's exactly a "rung above" imo and actually I think it would be a better fit for us with KP to have someone like Kemba who doesn't shoot or hold the ball as much.

And if you put much into box score stats defensively, Kembas DBPM is at -0.9 over that span while Lillard is at -1.8 DBPM and Kembas steal % is at 1.8 while Lillard's is at 1.2. Also Kemba has been higher on ESPN's Defensive RPM list the past 3 seasons as well. Not the end all be all but most metrics point to Kemba being noticeably better.

I also think Frank would be a good fit with Kemba because Kemba is really good at slithering into the paint off of picks... something Frank seems to be less inclined to and I don't think that has to do with pure athleticism as you insinuated. kemba has really good change of pace and and a really nice handle. That won't go away with age. He can play at multiple speeds. His hesitations and crosses absolutely freeze big men on pick and rolls.

I hear what you are saying, but we have been burned by guys coming here on that prime-to-end-of-prime contract. It usually does not go well. IMO Kemba's skill set is easier to replicate than Lillards (again ft% to me is a more true metric of ones ability as a set shooter/off the ball shooter). Lillard provides more spacing and can play off Frank while Frank can also play off of him.

If we got Kemba straight for Kantar and then extended him, that's fine with me. If we trade away in essence Lee, O'Quinn WHG for Kemba then extend Kemba I am fine with that. Low cost, med rewards and I already have given up on cap space so that's fine. But to give up Kantar (space) and a pick or picks would be irresponsible.

I feel ya. Totally understand that mindset. I think the issue with where we're at is that if KP is going to play 65-75 games a year, then we're just going to be too good to realistically bank on getting top talent in the draft. At some point we're either going to need to strike gold in FA (just a little unlikely to bank on) to get over the hump or trade a pick to get talent. With how we're constructed right now, we're about 1 or 2 very good to elite talents to get to legitimate contender status in the East and if Kemba became available for the right price he would put us in the top half of the East IMO.

If we were smart we would be making plays for Brandon Knight and Solomon Hill. Both could be easily had and likely with a useful prospect/pick attached.

Given our depth at center.. Would simply moving Kyle O’Quinn for a point guard make sense? Are there any point guards that fit in that salary trade wise?

Someone in a rookie scale would work too. Since KOQ only makes like $4 Million.

I doubt they Trade him now tho. They'll likely resign him for around $7-10 Million given his old school blue collar Defense and work ethic combined with his home town roots.

Obviously things change along the way, but that's how I see it playing out. He just fits Mills/Perry mold too much. Plus, he's still under 30 (so he'd be fine for a 4 year deal), and he's a good passing Big Man, and those are hard to come by (who also play Defense and can score in the Post).

At what price point would it be worth it to bring Beasley back next season? He's going to be 30. But he also hasn't gotten too much usage in his NBA career. Perhaps that means there's less worry about his body breaking down? Is his recent play a flash in the pan? Can he keep it up?

I would bring him back on a 2 year 12 million deal with a team option on the 3rd yr.

Jeremy Lamb is starting to live up to his potential and is on a cost-controlled contract. He would indeed be a nice trade target for us

Jabari Parker is another target I would try to look at in the offseason. He's only 22 and from recent reports, he seems to be looking really good coming off his 2nd major surgery.

We don't have much, if anything, to offer Lamb. And, as you said, he's finally coming around on a good contract. He was someone I wanted us to target last year.

It's probably why we can get him at a below market-value contract. He's only 22 and his game never relied on athleticism (unlike Rose. Plenty of teams will be after him.
