Question for Wolves fans on LaVine.

Hoiberg is talking about playing him some at PG. I know he struggled the first couple of seasons playing there, but he was also a raw SG. Has he ever been successful playing the point in spurts? Do you think it's a mistake to play him as a combo guard rather than just a 2?

Most here will likely tell you it's an awful decision, but I believe part of his early problems there can be chalked up to talent and systematic issues.

Is his handle and vision good enough? I imagine his defense is better at PG given his lean build and problems keeping track of players off the ball.

Lavine at PG is a great way to tank. Like the Bulls should do.

He's got the handle and vision of a shooting guard. That doesn't mean you couldn't play him as the PG for spurts, but I wouldn't expect him to be Magical running the offense.

Probably wouldn't be much different than Denver running Murray at PG for stretches.

He definitely isn’t a point guard.

Why then did you guys try to make him a PG?

To develop LaVine and tank at the same time. Zach learned how to play much much better by being forced to how to run an offense, and of course we wanted that pick.

If I remember correctly the late great SuperSonics did the same sort of thing with Kevin Durant when he came into the league - spent a large part of the season playing him at SG.

His handle and vision are probably good enough but he certainly doesn't have that feel for organizing an offense like proper point guards (should) have. If you have a point forward type of player on your squad you could play Zach at the point guard position where I bet he'd be a nightmare to guard.

Excited for Zach. He's having back to back good shooting nights & The Bulls are winning.

I think it would be funny to look back at the trade thread on the Chicago board over the summer. Most Wolves fans were trying to say it was a fair deal once Zach regains form, even without knowing Dunn would be doing well for them. Zach + #7 IMO was great talent for Butler if they were going the rebuilding route. Dunn playing well is a bonus

I'm happy for Chicago fans and now they get to see what Zach is all about

Markkanen fastest ever in NBA History to 100 3-pointers.

Does he really count as part of the former wolves?

18/5/5 in 19 minutes for Lavine.. it's hurting me that he's on a minute restriction right now because I want to see him out there every second. His defense still looks like it stinks though.

So much for our tank.

Yup, offensive dynamo. However, even on his best defensive days, he might need to be hidden. But, I do think he'll be better in Chicago than here. I think thibs defense was too complicated for him.

Trust the process. I honestly wish you guys had less wins so you could pick up one of the big men in this year's draft. That would give you guys a filthy core in the East

Yeah, it hurts going from talking about Bagley/Ayton etc. every game to knowing you can't get them. I still think there'd be a chance at one if we dumped all our vets, but I don't think the Bulls are planning on doing that. Still, someone in the mid-lottery should be a nice addition.

Glad the Butler trade is working out for both teams. Not that I want to see the Bulls succeed, more so that I want LaVine and Dunn to do well.

Would make the trade in all over again in a heartbeat, obviously. Not every day you can trade for a top 10 player

Just hope Patton turns out to be decent , if he does or even becomes a solid starter for the wolves , they win this trade easily.

Utah Jazz are just horrible.

I love ricky as a player and person, but he needs to completely change his game because there isnt a team out there that will build a team around his strengths.
