He's young and still adapting to NBA level competition. Remember, it was just 9 years ago that he started playing High School basketball.

Imagine if Thon was Sabonis. Or Marshall Plumlee. Or Brian Skinner.

Trying to make him play like those guys is where the issue lies. So many have the anti-Thon blinkers on these days that they don't see anything but the negative anymore, and then they don't question what has led to the regression.

I went through that phase. I thought maybe he's a PF, but now I just don't think he's an NBA Player at all.

"anti-Thon blinkers" = not being delusional about what he is right now. Dude is a bottom 10 player in the league.

I've said it before, just because Thon can't rebound, play D against a big guy, rim run on O, or protect the rim doesn't mean he's a 4. It means he's a terrible 5. At the 4 he still can't guard anyone, dribble, catch, shoot off the dribble, drive, pass. All it means is he'd have less rebounding responsibility, which would then require putting another non offensive threat on the floor to play the 5. Henson, Thon at 4, Giannis at 3 lineups would be terrible in half court O and I'd guess Thon would be a huge liability trying to gaurd on the wing. Bottom line, the guy is just awful right now. He shouldn't be on the floor in the NBA if you're trying to win.

There's been no regression. He was terrible last season. Thon has never been a good shooter in his life. He shot 51% from three last season in his first 34 games to start his NBA career. It was a small sample size and it's the only time he has ever shot well at any level in his career. Thon is never asked to do anything with the ball except shoot immediately or pass immediately and yet he still has more turnovers than assists. He can't shoot, he can't rebound, he can't defend. He has no passing or ballhandling skills and he can't create his own shot or finish inside. He can't even catch a basketball.

Quick, scrambling defence. His urgency and length cause more turnovers than the box score will tell you. His help defence on guards can be quite good. Kidd would rather have him fighting losing battles against centers who overpower him, though.

He has a smooth jumper that isn't being utilised atm. People were quick to roll their eyes at his airballed 18 footer last night but fail to realise that he has the best shooting percentage in the team at that range, and one of the best in the league. Last season they parked him in the corner and it created space. He got to be pretty reliable from there and still is (from the left), only he was told by Kidd not to shoot 3s. He is running around setting useless screens and rolling to the rim (and being rightfully ignored) instead of just finding space for an open shot. No wonder the man has no confidence. Let's hope he doesn't read these boards too.

I see the issues with his game but I see strengths that are barely used let alone maximised. He is being set up to fail.

Garnett is a f-cking idiot. He said Thon will be an all star a month or so ago. Also he was one of the dirtiest sh-ttiest players ever. Unreal those idiots are put on tv.

All I really want to know out of this mess is who made each decision on these personnel acquisitions (Kidd, Hammond, LED?)

Trading for Greivis
Signing Telly, Delly and Plumlee
Drafting Thon
Drafting DJ Wilson

Doc Rivers would be a fine coach. Just no control over roster decisions.

You're right that if he's out there he has to park in teh corner and shoot the 3s when he's open. It's his only route to being useful on offense.

HIs D is terrible in all facets. Put him out on a 4 on the wing and he'd get lost over and over, fall for every pump fake. he'd get blown by over and over since he has terrible lateral quickness/instincts, can't navigate around screens. He'd be a liability anywhere on D right now. Just get a big to take his mins and let him play full games in D league. I don't think it's hopeless that he could become a rotation player and I'd guess some of poor instincts/IQ stuff is because he's played so little actual bball while he was this hot prospect hiding from the world to protect his draft stock. He needs to just play so he hopefully gets comfortable, but he's completely over-matched at the NBA level and the team is trying to win right now so can't have such a liability out there. I do feel for the guy a bit since he does try and care, but he's just being put in a losing position.

That was trash, but not surprising. I’m sure Kidd was texting KG yesterday asking him to spin it his way.

Love that KG went all in on the those were his boys, his friends too regarding the owners. His boys are still paying him for two more years KG, he will be just fine. But your collecting checks for your consulting days are over.
