I'm afraid of Whiteside -- especially if he'd cost us Jabari.

Players who only first come to prominence in Pat Riley's system don't tend to do well after they leave.

At 28 he's also exactly the age when big men start to fade too.

I like Justice Winslow and think he just needs to be given some more freedom offensively (albeit I don't watch a lot of Heat games). I need to see him do it more consistently at the NBA level, but he's 22-50 on threes this season, so his jumper may be coming around.

I'm pretty lukewarm on Whiteside as a player and think there's some attitude problems there, but I'd easily do that deal. Probably no chance the Heat go for it though.

Steve Kyler today:

Milwaukee Bucks

The Bucks have been looking for frontcourt help for some time. The Bucks continue to be linked to Clippers big man DeAndre Jordan, and while it’s looking less and less likely the Clippers will pull the trigger, the Bucks remain optimistic they could win a deal if they put him on the market.

The Bucks seem to be offering some combination of forward John Henson, and at least two rookie scale players from forward Thon Maker and guards D.J. Wilson and Rashad Vaughn.

An alternative for the Bucks seems to be Jazz big man Derrick Favors, although Utah seems to have a number of suitors for him.

The dark horse candidate for the Bucks could be Miami’s Hassan Whiteside, but sources close to the HEAT continue to say its unlikely they are going to make him available in trade, but admitted teams have called, meaning Miami has options.

The Bucks seem open to adding to their monster payroll now. The question becomes what to do with would be free agent Jabari Parker, who is still rehabbing from an ACL injury and may not be able to play until early March.

Those are all plan A's. Maybe Kyler is discussing them because they're sexier for clicks, but a b or even c would suffice would "move the needle".

If nothing else, the last couple years should have gained more appreciation for role players here. Because we used to have a surplus, who in the subsequent seasons played significant roles for other teams, but they were plenty reviled individually here because we were losing and they supposedly didn't move the needle. Now they would considering we have the core. Wasn't their fault it wasn't in place previously.

The Cavaliers and Kings are further apart on a trade for George Hill than it first appeared, sources told cleveland.com, with significant hurdles toward a potential deal remaining.

One source told cleveland.com that the two sides were speaking "conceptually" about Hill and were never close; another said the Cavs sought to change the parameters of a potential trade.

Conceptually, at least, the Cavs would get Hill from the Kings and send Channing Frye and Iman Shumpert to Sacramento. Derrick Rose could also have been involved and perhaps a future second-round draft pick

Cleveland's deep thinkers believe that Hill will nonetheless help as a guard who can play either spot, score, and defend. The Cavs aren't getting any defense from Isaiah Thomas (118.7 defensive rating in eight games) and not much at all from J.R. Smith (112.6 defensive rating, 7.4 points per game on offense).

Also, a league source told cleveland.com that Hill may still be dealing with a sore toe that nagged him last season and forced him out of three playoff games when he was with Utah against Golden State in May.

What about some kind of reboot trade between CHA, CLE and MKE

CHA: Middleton, TT, Love, Calderon
CLE: Kemba, MKG, Howard, Delly
MKE: Zeller, Monk, IT

Charlotte gets a star and Middleton would fit nice along side Batum and Love.

Cleveland gets Kemba and some defense they are looking for.

Milwaukee gets a useful center, young SG prospect and IT can be a second unit scorer.

PG: Bledsoe, IT, Terry
SG: Brogdon, Monk, Vaughn
SF: Snell, Brown, (Parker)
PF: Giannis, Mirza, Wilson
C: Zeller, Henson, Thon
What am I missing? Sure seems like Cavs are taking the shaft while MKE and CHA make out like bandits

I guess it depends if you think IT has a lot of value (I don't), if you think CLE is serious about trying to fix their defense (I do), that Kemba Walker has somewhat comparable value with Kevin Love (which I do)

Are we? I think We are getting the shaft cause I think IT isn't that good and having his bird rights is useless since I wouldn't want to give him his next contract, Zeller is probably a slight positive and Monk is allright but doesn't make up the value of Middleton in the slightest. If IT goes somewhere else and we get value back for him, I might like it.

I can see how the valuations might align with yours... bit looking just at MKE end, I'd see Zeller(+)/Monk(+) and Midds(++)/Delly(-) being fairly a push hedging on MKE sending out more value because they give up the best player but I don't think that gap is on the level of IT. CHA gets arguably 2 of the 3 best players in an 11 player deal. CLE side looks like Love:Kemba and Jose:Delly leaving TT to equate to MKG/D12 which might have negligible variance. That leaves within variance the vale of IT however you may view it as a non reciprocated exiting asset. Ill admit to negligence to any contract variables that play into the equation.

All that said, if CLE bit on it I would certainly take that back from our side.

Man if the Bucks could only pull this off

Bucks: Favors, Hood
Jazz: Henson, Maker, Wilson

and then something for Dedmon, not sure what then....

Bucks: Dedmon
Cavs: Delly and Bellinelli
Hawks: Shumpert and Osman

Massive 4-teamer:

MKE out:
Eric Bledsoe
Mirza Teletovic
Matthew Dellavedova
Tony Snell
Thon Maker
DJ Wilson

MKE in:
Kemba Walker
Cody Zeller
Marvin Williams

Milwaukee basically swaps Bledsoe for Kemba, while using expiring money and prospects to bring in Zeller and Marvin.

Kemba / Brogdon
Middleton / (Brogdon)
Parker / Brown
Giannis / Marvin
Henson / Zeller

CLE out:
Tristan Thompson
Isaiah Thomas
Iman Shumpert
Channing Frye
Cedi Osman
CLE '18 1st

CLE in:
DeAndre Jordan
Eric Bledsoe
Matthew Dellavedova
Lou Williams

Cavs need defense, so they sacrifice IT and their 1st in order to add DJ/Bledsoe/Delly to the fold while Lou can replace IT's scoring. This also increases the odds of LeBron re-signing, IMO.

LAC out:
DeAndre Jordan
Lou Williams

LAC in:
Tristan Thompson
Isaiah Thomas
Tony Snell

Clippers get two rotation players locked-in on their contracts and a marquee player to pair with Blake in IT for their two expiring all-stars.

CHA out:
Kemba Walker
Cody Zeller
Marvin Williams

CHA in:
Mirza Teletovic (retire)
Channing Frye
Iman Shumpert
Thon Maker
DJ Wilson
Cedi Osman
CLE '18 1st

Charlotte uses Kemba to move Zeller and Marvin's money to Milwaukee, while adding expirings, prospects and a 1st rounder as they hit the 'reset' button.

Just trade Khris for an all star Center.

When Jabari comes back ... Khris would be our 4th best player (Giannis,Bledsoe,Jabari) ... not enough FGAs to make him happy. Snell would fit fine among our future Big3 ... all we need is a high caliber Center ... Jabari will fully replace Khris scoring probably with better efficiency too. Get me a dominant C like Whiteside or DeAndre or Cousins. I don't want us to get another Miles Plumlee type of player. Khris has enough value to get us what we want ...

I dropped this in the ATL thread, but I thought it should be in here too considering we are under two weeks to the deadline.

We are $4,310,379 below the luxury tax threshold.

We have three trade exceptions:
Miles Plumlee (expires 02/02/18) — $1,151,241
Roy Hibbert (expires 02/23/18) — $5,000,000
Greg Monroe (expires 11/07/18) — $3,384,176

We may owe a second round pick to the Suns this year (top 48 protected) or to Philly in 2019 (higher between Bucks and Kings). So any 2nd rounder you are adding to a deal must be in 2020 or later, if my understanding is correct.

I'll add here to remember the first rounder we sent to the Suns is protected through 2021, so to my understanding any future firsts would need to be 2022 or later.

Food for thought while you consider trade possibilities.

Would absolutely do Snell for Gortat. We have Sterling Brown ready to slide into the minimized role Snell is about to have once Jabari returns.

Yep and honestly we could start pulling that trigger even if he remains on the roster. I feel like Brown could quickly pass Snell if given the chance.
