I get that you shouldn't want to be locked into the 8th seed for 10 years straight but there's room for fringe contenders. Teams where absolutely everything needs to click for them to make a run.

Blake and Drummond probably aren't beating the Warriors but if you surround them with shooters and maybe one or two guys break out, they could be a tough out for anyone in the playoffs. Especially with how weak the East is.

I just think back to that awesome Mavs team that won a chip with Scrappy vets and a prime Dirk. They were counted out the entire playoffs. If management gave up on them and tried to rebuild cause they were an old team likely to get knocked out early in the playoffs, we'd never see that magical run.

the problem is Griffin cant stay healthy and is owed 4 years/142 million after this season. hard to build around a star who cant play 75+ games consistently. he also hasnt played at a superstar level since 13-14 and you have to be concerned injuries are wearing him down, which becmes more risky since he relies alot on athleticism

they also got a great package for him

dont love it for the pistons. griffin gives them another awful contract and i dont think he makes them a top 4 seed now or in the near future. they lose picks and dont have the cap flexibility to add to that core.

i mean the pistons just became the homeless mans version of the clippers with Reggie/blake/drummond only reggie isnt 10% the player prime paul was, blake is an older injured version of himself and durmmond is a lazier worse jordan

It's one pick, likely just inside/outside of lottery. Avery is up after this season and then you have to pay him. I do agree that Harris is underrated.

I don't think it's as bad as some think it is for clips but I wouldn't call it great either.

for Detroit, it's basically a marketing/revamp tool. They are already one of the worst attendance for a new stadium, a rebuild would only make it worse. They have no option but to threadmill and Blake is probably enough of a star to get some excitement back for that team.

yeah they are basically a worse version of the clippers, but they are also in the east.

Yea I get it for Detroit even though I don't like it. Griffin is a star albeit a flawed one. It's kind of like when the Knicks got Amare, except SVG is going to do a better job building a team around him. I also kind of like that they are zigging when almost everyone else is zagging with the way they are going to be able to beat up on people down low, plus they still have a lot of outside shooting with Kennard, Bullock, Tolliver, Galloway etc.

We need to jump in and offer them Carroll for Mirotic.

Pretty sure it's the 1st round pick that they wanted.

And they were paying the price by taking on Asik? Yikes.

That was a great trade for the Clippers imo. Time to cut bait. Tobias Harris to me is a stud.

Hoping this can turn into a DeMarre Carroll for Asik and a 1st.

I think it was decent, but not great. But I did think Griffin might be moved and the on paper value wasn't going to be huge. Hence my earlier itt proposal of RHJ and Mozgod.

For Detroit, idk. I mean I think they got great value for the outgoing, Griffin is a beast, but how do they build anything around him? But, unless they were going to straight blow it up, this is exactly the move they needed to pull off.

They got a solid player (borderline all star numbers wise) and a 1st rd pick. No brainer trade for a team that needs to restructure itself. I'd be dangling D'Andre Jordan to the Cavs for the Nets 1st rder if I'm the clippers next.

Have to imagine they've been offering that one for a hot minute, I don't see Cleveland biting though.

Unless you find someone to trade for Drummond I have no clue what they are doing

We need to trade some of our guards and get some bigs who can bang and play d and reb. we'll never win any games despite how many pts our guards put up. Kanter and KP killed us tonight.

Caroll+2nd rounder for Mirotic
DPE+Staukas for Noel&Seth Curry
These trades aren't that hard to pull off.

Looks like that Mirotic for Asik + 1st fell through. Maybe the Nets can jump in with a Stauskus + Zeller + the DPE?

I'd do a Harris for Stanley Johnson swap still.

Harris is likely gone anyway and DET could use a SF who can shoot it lights out next to Blake and Drummond. Johnson just went for 26 and 10 last night too at PF which is exactly what he would do for us here. He's a more natural PF and can shoot it better from 3 than RHJ even though RHJ is the better player now I think with some development at the PF Johnson could fit better next to Allen long term with his ability to be a spot up shooter.

Theres zero reason to add any bigs given they will be taken out by Kenny for not being able to space the offense.

Unless we can find a guy who rebounds, block shots, finishes lobs, and shoot stand still threes, he won't fit this team's "needs".

Allen is being groomed to be that. And teams who have someone that has potential to do that will not just give them away.

I still think Carroll/Harris for Asik/filler 1st is a real possibility and I'd be thrilled with it.
