The mark of any good conspiracy theory...
The truth is...this isn't a conspiracy theory.
It's a pertinent question we're awaiting the answer. When a new GM is brought on board, it's probably the most important decision he makes during his tenure.
Here's the thing, it is unreasonable to believe that Bud has some kind of permanent job security because no one does anywhere. There is no insight in speculating that Bud may move on
some day so one cannot blanket themselves in some cloak saying that they are not crazy to suggest this. Where the laziness, conspiracy or agenda gets pointed out is when that same someone is continuously putting out their
own answers and constantly grabbing at straws to point out the
immediacy of this event occurring.
This has been about the 8th time I've read "no news on Bud's extension" being offered up as some sort of evidence of his impending departure. I've asked this same question before to the sound of crickets:
"what is even the length of his current deal?"
So again, how does one feel confident in constantly repeating this? If Bud has 2-3 years left on his deal is there a reason to bring up extension talks? If Bud resigns or is fired with time on his deal remaining does that somehow support the theory on his extension? There are so many holes everywhere: "He won't stick around a rebuilding situation but he'll join another rebuilding situation" "he has no connection to the city/ownership/players so he'll join somewhere where he has no connection to either or all of those things either" "Schlenk will want someone that shares his vision over Bud, whomever that may be, I can't really think of anyone in particular" etc. etc. etc.
It's the ultimate hedged bet where you win whenever or however Bud leaves. Which is why I asked for a timetable, do you get to puff your chest if it's 2 years, 5 years, or 20 years? Or can we focus on something more definitive here? Can we even focus on a particular reason instead of spitballing whatever at the wall?
