NFL Won't Facilitate Team Signing Colin Kaepernick In 2018

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Jan 31, 2018 8:35 pm

Roger Goodell was asked about whether the NFL would get involved with facilitating an opportunity for Colin Kaepernick to sign with a team in 2018.

"I've been very clear on this before that all the clubs, individually, have to make their own decisions about who's on the roster, who's not on the roster," Goodell said. "Colin, as you know, has filed a grievance, so I'm not going to talk specifically about that case. But I think that's something that the clubs have to make -- that decision. We as a league, do not get involved in that in any way. So I don't anticipate that in any way."

Kaepernick knelt during the national anthem before games during the 2016 season to protest racial inequality and other social injustices.

I can't believe this BS is still going on. Completely blackballing a player, for a peaceful protest, something this country was founded on. It's complete crap started by the butthurt conservatives who care more about the protest itself than the reason the protests even started in the first place. This isn't the land of the free. It's the land of the corporate controlled monkeys. If you don't do exactly what they say, then your career is over. It's really sad.

If you decide to protest every day at your job and your bosses feel that they don't want to renew your work contract when it runs out, that's their right to do so. Other companies in your profession that find out about this may feel the same way, deciding that whatever skills you bring aren't worth the distraction you bring.

Now figure in a billion dollar industry that relies on spectators.

It's not BS. It's called a consequence to one's actions. When you draw a line in the sand, you will have people standing on the other side of it. When those people represent the majority of fans who pay to keep your franchise afloat, what do you expect?

Most people I've talked to don't like him because he doesn't address anything specific. Protesting against inequality is like protesting against bad stuff. The guy isn't even allowed to talk because it got him in trouble the last time he was in front of a microphone with talking about Castro in Miami. He's a fool.

Awwww poor lil Kap. Welcome to consequences to your actions. Dude didn't even know what the heck he's protesting or how to do it in an effective way ("hey Ima politicize and polarize sports while flipping off the flag") <-- (Brilliant). Kap made it about some fabricated "race war", when in reality, the few bad cops just needed better training on restraint. But no, "oppressed millionaire" Kap wanted to pretend he's Malcolm X or something and living in the 1800's. He was a trash QB anyway in case any team has forgotten.

Yep. Just listen to what he has actually had to say and suddenly the poster boy for protest isn't nearly as attractive. Don't hear about that much though because it isn't a compelling media story - much better to position him as one of righteous indignation that is being run over by the big bad owners.

I understand teams not wanting a distraction, but he's better than most backup QBs in the league and people are just being stubborn about emotional hot button issues. The guy is basically being blackballed over a controversial opinion, which shouldn't have anything to do with his career in football. Even James Harrison who said 9/11 was an inside job, still has a career.

Yeah he got screwed because we allow players to return after DUIs, domestic abuse, manslaughter and other similar legal violations, yet Kaepernick is treated worse than any of them, over something that isn't even in the same stratosphere. It's ridiculous standards that we set, all to promote nationalism and blind allegiance to the military. The fact that we treat something so arbitrary like kneeling for an anthem as if it's worse than people who beat their wives and kids and nearly kill people by selfishly choosing to drive drunk, or leading police on high speed chases is simply despicable and disgusting. Where are the consequences for THOSE people? Oh wait, that suddenly doesn't apply now.

Stop pretending that it's about the "distraction". It's not. It's completely about being butthurt over the national anthem and trying to punish him for the controversy. You have to be completely blind not to see that. They are making an example of him to promote this false ideology that says we HAVE to blindly support a country no matter how many problems it has with equality. That mentality is pathetic. Martin Luther King did something very controversial by protesting segregation. Many people were just as offended at African Americans eating at a white restaurant, as people were about the flag protests today, and you know what? They are pretty much the same type of mentally immature people that cater to fear and emotion over logic and reason. Non violent protest is what this country is all about, and seeing people punished for exercising that very right is ludicrous and absurd. The only distraction is ignoring the reason the protest was started in the first place rather than complaining about the method of protest in itself. Things like this are SUPPOSED to grab people's attention. You have to stand out sometimes to orchestrate change. The problem is the conservative right, treating him like he's evil over it instead of addressing the issues or even acknowledging them. It's a pathetic cop out.

I couldn't agree more. I said that in a very long winded way above haha. I'm so sick of the red herrings people post about this issue, in a weak attempt to divert away from the purpose of the protests in the first place. He is being purposely blackballed, and it's blatantly obvious. People are just in denial over being butthurt, and ironically most of those people are the same ultra right wing nutjobs that refer to everyone who gets offended over racism and other prejudiced behavior as easily offended "snow flakes", yet they are SUPER offended over something that hurts nobody. It's pathetically hypocritical, pure double standards.

- Kap sucks. This isn't the same QB that went (*carried) to the Super Bowl. Once teams figured out how to stop his legs, he couldn't make it as a pocket QB. He couldn't even beat out the 49ers crappy backups. Kept losing game after game. If he was decent, he might still be in the league. He's just not worth the gamble from a business perspective.

- Apples and oranges. Players who get in trouble do face consequences -- they're suspended, pay their due, and come back. Kapernick was/is an ongoing DIVISIVE distraction (flipping off the flag basically, supporting a BLM "cause" that ACTUALLY resulted in the deaths of cops in Dallas and Baton Rouge). Plus to the league and owners (ya know, a business trying to make money), it affects their bottom line (which gives entitled Kapernick the ability to make millions to play a game). How is this difficult to understand?

- You want it all ways. Of course he can protest. People don't HAVE to support his cause. How many people are activists at THEIR JOBS. Do you protest at your job on divisive racial and political grounds? This is called consequences to actions aka the real world. And Kap ain't no MLK JR. His cause isn't even just. BLM needs to quit acting like what they're saying is the gospel truth, some righteous cause, some "given" that we as a society already know as the truth. It's not. Kap's stupid cause wasn't even ACCURATE. Blacks are not oppressed. Fake & false projection news which is only being fueled by the black community's need for free stuff (reparations, etc), blame culture, lack of self-accountability, old & outdated grudges, boogeyman paranoia, and complete lack of self awareness to understand that any conditions are due to natural cause/effect results.

This issue isn't that difficult to understand. It was a business move for the NFL, period.

Not defending these guys, but did it hurt the NFL's bottom line? Nope. 'Nuff said. You people really think this is Disneyland huh? You think the real world everyone is supposed to rally around Kapernick's bs protest and clap and cry or something? Sure, maybe if it was a righteous cause. It wasn't. And it's bad for business. This is a billion dollar league with massive sponsors they need to appease. They're going to do what's in their best business interest, duhhhh.

Your arguments would hold more weight if you didn't have a complex of boogeyman paranoia. You distrust "white devil" 100%, therefore it completely clouds your judgment. Everything you interpret is filtered through your racial perspective of things. If blacks truly want "equality", maybe they should stop playing and pushing identity politics and race cards 24/7, and just accept that they're Americans first, no matter your race. Which group BRINGS UP RACE THE MOST? Blacks. Like let it go already, NO ONE CARES, move on... How annoying when people just try to go about their lives, and blacks (the ones with a grudge and paranoid complex) want to demonize them based on their own hallucinated projection that ____ happened because of "racism". No ____ happened because of cause/effect. Cops shot unarmed black guy because that cop needed better training, not racism. Unarmed black guy got himself in that high intensity and dangerous situation because he made poor life choices. etc. Crap happens, it's not ALWAYS racial.
