The Bacon - Graham situation is going to be very interesting to watch unfold. Are they good enough to make other wings available for trades? Jury is out.

Not enough being said about Treveon Graham's role in that winning comeback vs MIL last night. now shooting 44% from 3 on the year he is a better fit than MKG in the starting 5. Just saying . . .

I wouldn't mind Graham starting over MKG except for the simple reason that he'll likely be in foul trouble every game b/c the refs will gift fouls to star players at his expense. At least MKG has a reputation for being a defender.

Positions be damned, I say Treveon should start over Nic until Nic is actually healthy. MKG guards the better wing, Graham guards the worse one.

It's worth trying but at the very least, if there is no trade for a 3D there should be at least MKG or Graham in the line up. Both Batum & Lamb either ask for switching all the time or get lost by his guy on the first drive (don't even need a pick..) and you need a + defender knowing i still don't like Graham as a 3D specialist. He has the outside shoot, but his defense (which was fine yesterday) is so so compare to a much needed elite 3D that would really keep the defense honnest.
Also, there is no reason to underestimate MKG's offense since his off the ball move, drives, cuts are really needed especially when Batum is playing.

Once the defense is set, it's way easier to improve the offense imo, especially with the profiles in this team. Even though it will still be very up and down until Cody comes back.

But i am personnaly sick of watching other guards (sg's..) torch this team game after game (the worst being seeing the ones from opponent's second unit filling up all star stat sheets)

How much of this is personnel like Treveon and how much is Cliff's "dig, dig, DIG!" defense that lets shooters get open 3s?
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

I really think Graham should start at SG because our starting lineup could really use his shooting along with Marv.

Batum goes to a backup role because our bench needs his playmaking along with Frank.

Playing Batum as a SG with the starters just doesnt work, and our other options at SG (Monk + Bacon) are both too awful to put in the lineup ever

I'd say it's both but the scheme is a lot easier to change. The Cliff defense requires perimeter defenders to be almost two places at once so their margin of error for being in correct defensive position is infinitesimally small. Like Lamb's defensive awareness isn't good but you really have to have DPOY level awareness to look good in this scheme and when there's a weak link in the chain it falls down like a house of cards (usually a wide open corner three in this scenario). Dwight can get lazy in P&R situations or leaving the paint, lots of players are prone to lapses of not helping the helper so the personnel is partially to blame as well.

I think all they can really do is find the right combination of players that can defend decently on the 1st and 2nd units and at least score decently on the 1st unit. At least get to where the 1st unit is competitive and the 2nd unit isn't digging a hole to China for the 1st to climb out of. I don't know what that combo of players is, honestly (good job, Cho) but it looks like Silas is more prone to experimenting from game to game than Clifford's "same rotations for 2.5 months, than slight tweak forced by injuries" approach.

We have decent players on this roster, especially if guys like Treveon keep producing, we should at least beat the cellar dwellers comfortably.

Injuries forcing Clifford to play Graham at PF has been one of the best things to happen to this team lately because it forces Clifford to play some form of small ball and defend out to the perimeter. When Graham is in at PF I typically view one of Batum or MKG as the PF by default.

Zeller returning from injury to defend centers out to the perimeter has been equivalently as great.

A little over the vet minimum if anything. He’s been okay for a undrafted player with little to no expectations but he hasn’t been good enough to demand any money from a team.

Even with luxury tax concerns, there is no risk associated if Charlotte elects to give Treveon Graham a qualifying offer. Although the $1.7 million qualifying offer represents a $400,000 salary increase from this season, Charlotte can withdraw the offer by July 13. When given an opportunity, Graham has proven that he can be a rotation player in the NBA. Now the Hornets have until June 29 to decide if they want to put the restricted tag on the small forward.

everybody always wantin stars but a winning team needs quality depth and I think it'd be a mistake to let 40% 3 pt shooter low risk low cost rotation player be a cap casualty, I hope they re-sign Treveon

Yeah he's worth that money, but should be our 11th or 12th guy going forward. Our bench should be Lamb/Kaminsky/Monk/Zeller/Hernangomez/Graham and whoever they draft. If he plays well, Bacon could push Graham.

I'm looking at Graham pushing Marvin for his role in a couple years. Marvin is two weeks from being 32. His game should age well, but his production is already below average starter level. In an ideal situation, he's already coming off the bench next season for someone like Jabari Parker, and Graham is pushing Marvin for that backup SF/PF role.

Good question.

We have got to figure out our wing rotation this summer. Batum - MKG - Lamb - Monk - Bacon pre-draft is too much IMO.

I'd honestly move on from the MKG experiment at this point - would rather have Graham on the floor. If we can get an expiring and a second, I'd be happy. I just don't see it ever clicking for him - guy has been statistically flatlined for 6 years. The Mavs will be only a handful of teams with cap room this summer. If they strike out in FA, wonder if they would consider Barea's expiring and a 2nd for MKG a win? Would net us 8mm in cap room this year and 12mm on MKG's salary next year. Hawks will have some room as well.

two days remain for the team to restrict Treveon Graham with a $1.7 M qo

another team throws cash at him you don't have to match
offer can be rescinded by July 13

this is a no brainer what are they waiting for?

I think Graham is gone, but this is a low-cost move and you could snag another 2nd + trade exception in a sign-and-trade.
