I feel like that incoming DAL game could be a trap. Hopefully we get a tank win.

Didn't Monty have some medical condition that got his career off to a slow start? He ended up having some halfway decent seasons.

Edit: wikipedia confirms:

Williams was an NBA first-round pick despite a pre-existing heart condition.

Ehh to me he was never that good. Typical 90s Knick forward draftee. Knicks had a knack for picking guys that either were extremely unathletic and/or were very one dimensional. This dude even as a rookie had Charles Smith's knees lmao. Why we talking about him again?

Because we're naming guys with the last name of Williams :dontknow:

I'm not saying he was some great player later. He just went from being unplayable to a decent role player.

The late part of that draft was pretty average. As per usual, we were not high enough.

Still disheartening that we couldn’t find one keeper. There were some decent picks after where we were. Who knows if they attempted to combine the picks to move up.

One of the few times we had multiples first going into draft night.

to be fair, that draft was plucked clean by the time knicks picked for the first time. including right before. (and JO took a while to come around.)

the big miss was z train. patrick was still playing. i get that pass.

who we really missed out on? derek fisher? JYD? i mean... not losing sleep over those guys given the construction of that knicks team through the end of the 90s.

what sucks is none of those picks were higher.

That draft sort of sucked. Which is why it figures the Knicks had 3 first rounders. :D

John Wallace was the Beasley of his day. Instant offense, but he played for JVG and didn't play defense.

I'm looking forward to a 64-58 Dallas win and Silver having a conniption fit over it.

Malik Rose was taken 44th. We had 18, 19, and 21. What are you trying to say? That draft was super top heavy along with Kobe and Nash. Unfortunately, we started picking at 18. Let's not act as if we passed on Kobe and Nash.

Where some one was picked does not mean we did not miss on the guy.

He was available when we picked.

We didn’t.

We swung 3x

We struck out.

Accept it. The Knicks failed. It’s a common occurrence.

it's a shame they didn't get anyone good in three tries. yes.

but the context of the 1996 draft is really misleading because they weren't in the running for any star players.

not exactly tripping that they missed on JYD and derek fisher. malik rose with the 21st pick. word. sure, buddy. that was a jewel for someone else to discover. getting cut from the hornets (same hornets who gave master p a look) and washing up in san antonio is what made him reach his potential as a serviceable reserve.

your incessant desire to point out the knicks' ineptitude has seen far better examples.

From that 96 knicks draft amazingly McCarty had the best career. He ended up being a decent sorta proto stretch 4 hustle dude for the Celtics. He was end of the bench depth at best though nothing to cry about. Still that's some shatty luck three first round picks and nothing!

McCarty ended up being a rotation guy....in Boston.

Grunfeld did not do well at drafting.

Return to New York Knicks
