Knicks Likely To Stretch Noah After Sept 1st

Post#1 » by taj2133 » Tue Mar 20, 2018 6:23 pm

Jeff Hornacek was asked on Monday about the status of Joakim Noah and when his situation may be resolved.

“I’m not sure,” Hornacek said. “In the summer, Scott [Perry, the general manager] and Steve [Mills, the team president] will be talking with him. I guess that’s how it will get resolved.”

The Knicks attempted to trade Noah at the deadline after his confrontation during a January practice with Hornacek.

New York is most likely to stretch and waive Noah after September 1st to create additional 2019 cap space if they're unable to trade him in July. Noah is signed through 19-20 and stretching him at that point would spread that season's salary of $19.3 million over three years.

So, if I am reading this right, that means we pay him his entire salary next year, and then stretch his final year?

I'd rather do that than stretch his last 2 years over 5, but I'm not sure if I like this more than just eating his contract for 2 more years
BaF Lakers:

Darius Garland/Cory Joseph
Klay Thompson/Shaedon Sharpe
Keldon Johnson/De'Andre Hunter
Evan Mobley/Tari Eason
Nic Claxton/Draymond Green

Bench: Leonard Miller, Jett Howard, Markquis Nowell, Kennedy Chandler, Day'Ron Sharpe

give him a 1 million dollar extension for 1 more year before we stretch him. i would rather have his contract stretched over 5 years instead of 3 years. we get that extra 2-3 million for whichever year we decide to take a swing on FA's, 2019 or 2020 summer free agency period.

this makes the most sense...it makes more sense than paying KOQ 10 million a year. Noah can be a 15-20 minute a night backup IMO.

Kinda like how Eli Apple is getting a fresh start with the giants new regime and coaching staff...once we fire Jeff hopefully we consider to bring back NOah before we extend KOQ to a contract we will regret (and i like kyle)

Don't stretch. If you want him out next year, just buy him out FFS.

the only reason you would stretch is you have a FA ready to go (which we wont this year). There is no reason to stretch him before you know what you need. No point in planning for 2019 FA yet...just let it play out for now. Give him a clean slate with a new coach.

Unless you've got a real impact player agreed to sign then this makes no sense. I don't want to stretch Noah for an Afflalo, Robin Lopez or Courtney Lee. Enough.

Pretty much. Just leads to overspending on bad players you have to play because they're paid a lot e.g. Hardaway
