In 2010, Terry missed 14 days from April,7 to April, 21
In 2005 Joe Johnson missed 17 days from May,11 to May 28.
So we should be close to the start of playoff

It will depend on when the surgery is done. They can still operate while he in concussion protocol.
i will let you know if i find out when he will be having the surgery.

I remember when the Bulls said this about Jordan.
The Lakers probably said this about Kobe.
And I am sure the GSW said this about Curry before they got Durant.

This is the Sixers, they don’t follow other teams. They hold players out longer then any team in sports. Now we really know why they do what they do. They can’t diagnose a injury right so they hold that player out longer as a just in case.

I'd gladly take a 94 Bulls run while he's healing.

Re: The Legend of Joel Embiid
Derrick Rose had an orbital fracture that required surgery. He was hit in training camp on Sept 29, 2015. He had the surgery the next day on Sept 30, 2015. He was cleared for non contact activities on Oct. 15, 2015, exactly two weeks later, but was dealing with some double vision. He suited up and played in the Bulls season opener on Oct. 27, 2015 wearing a mask. He did not play in any preseason games.
Derrick Rose and Joel Embiid seem to be about on that same level of fragility in their bones and ligaments. Obviously we are talking preseason vs the playoffs here, so who knows if Rose would have played. But going by that timeline its going to be close in getting Embiid for the 1st round. But he needs to be getting that surgery as soon as possible. The playoffs start two weeks from tomorrow.
Theres always that one series each round that plays like Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday. So we can only hope that we get that series, allowing us to give Embiid 3 weeks of rest while still possibly missing only 2-3 playoff games.

Re: The Legend of Joel Embiid
I am far from the biggest fan of the medical staff but this is not their fault. The X-Rays were negative and he did originally clear the concussion protocol. He then vomitted on the way to the hospital and was then diagnosed with a mild concussion. The CT Scan then showed the facial fracture and they spent most of yesterday going over the treatment plan. From what i heard this morning, he is doing much better today.

Re: The Legend of Joel Embiid
I really doubt they screwed up the concussion test. Like it's not hard, it's just asking him questions like what the score was, whos the president etc. and gauging responses. It's not something you need to be a specialist in, medical students can and do administer it regularly.
It's just also something that isn't 100% accurate. Again it's just asking him questions it's not like taking a look at his brain and seeing if it's bruised.
Originally I thought they said they did the CT scan and it didn't come up with any fracture, which seemed like bs. Now it seems like they did an X Ray in arena. The CT scan showed the break.
This one isn't on the medical staff guys, if anything the delay in getting the information out is on the PR people.

Re: The Legend of Joel Embiid
Theres really no one to blame here. The health of Embiid is first and foremost and if he can't play this year, so be it.
The entire team is built around him IMO and I doubt they will win against any of the better teams without him. Sixers losing Embiid is like the Cavs losing Lebron. I'm not sure they win 30 games without him.

Not sure what the concussion protocol is like in the NBA but I know with other professional sports every player at the beginning of the year has to answer a set of questions and the answers are recorded which becomes the guide for the medical staff to work from. When someone is suspected of suffering a concussion these same questions are pulled out and they measure the responses against what they were when they were healthy... and if they struggle or get the answers wrong then concussion is suspected.
They either answer them or they don't... not a lot of room for medical opinion.

Re: The Legend of Joel Embiid
Embiid will do everything he can to be back for game 1 of the playoffs. That is a fact. Until then, time for Ben, Dario, and friends to step up. And hey Richaun, you want minutes in this league? Earn them starting now.

Totally agree.
Until Simmons grows up a bit to be a franchise player in his own right, Embiid = the Franchise.
Even WITH Embiid, winning a playoff series was not a sure thing, and we aren't contenders yet anyway. The playoffs this year were/are a reward for a terrific season and a great opportunity for our young guys to get some experience.
I want, and expect, him to play in the first round, but if there are any lingering effects of this injury then just sit him, and hope we can win the first round without him.
I don't blame the medical staff for anything. This was a freak injury, and the tools that they had at the moment showed incorrect results. They took him to the hospital for more testing and the additional testing showed the damage. Any player in the history of basketball that got hit in the same way would have gotten the same injury.
If they had let him back into the game and he threw up on the court or something like that then it would be a different story.
We can't blame the medical staff for everything that is wrong medically.

yep. I think people are just mad and want to blame someone, its a bummer for sure but it is what it is.
I remember feeling this way when Carson Wentz went down...and then...well you know.
If the Eagles didn't win the Superbowl this would bum me out way more.

Well neither Bulls nor the Lakers has two number one overall picks in their team besides their best player.

No Embiid for the rest of the season. And now I can't even use the Phillies to distract me from an Embiid-less Sixers, or else I'd have to watch Gabe Kapler figure out new ways to submarine his own team. Unbelievable.

Actually if you ask me which Center I want for my perfect championship caliber team, I will chose Asik hands down

Well, I think we will be favored most of the remaining games so the stretch run should still be fun.
And maybe Kapler’s dumb ideas will start to work. Lol

Re: The Legend of Joel Embiid
This is should be a powerful lesson to management that an impactful back C or preferably C/PF needs to be a priority in the draft, trade or FA. Freak accident, not picking on Jojo’s health, but he is a very big man who tosses his body around and needs rest and the occasional game off, Not a guy like Amir or energy booster like Holmes, and not Pasceniks, but someone who can anchor the D at the rim without being an anchor of the wrong kind on offense. It should always have been a priority based on how critical Embiid is for us on D especially.

Every good player missed between 0-5 games with this injury. A couple of scrubs missed 20+.

OT: Kapler is the new Chip Kelly. Pulling Nola yesterday was beyond dumb.

I feel like any manager does this at the beginning of the season. They don't want to overload the pitchers this early.the_process wrote:LloydFree wrote:No Embiid for the rest of the season.
