Re: Trade Thread 2: Make your offers here
As it stands, the Suns are getting the Bucks and Heat picks (15 and 16). Could change, since the Bucks pick is protected from 17 up, but that withstanding, here's a feasible idea:
Lopez for Knight, #15, #16
Maybe throw in the NOP pick if it creeps back to #23 or so.
At a certain point, they need to stop adding picks and add some veterans to regulate on the floor. It's a total mess over there: they've got about 6 lottery picks on rookie-scale contracts and they're about to add 3 more 1st picks? Give me a break. The Knight contract is bad. They have a keeper in Booker, Jackson looks good, and they'll probably get a solid top-4 pick. They should start putting mentors and winning vets around them. Of course Lopez doesn't make sense if they draft Ayton, so avoiding him is another part of the hypothetical.
Anyway, I'd do it to get creative; try to consolidate those picks to move up to the 8-10 range for a better prospect.
It'd be good to pre-emptively move Lopez this time. We need to tank harder next year. More Felicio and Portis, who are major net-negatives at center. What's the worse that'll happen? They'll develop more? It's a win-win. Should've been the plan this year, instead of having a totally playoff-caliber rotation with Niko and RoLo.

Another trade involving the 76ers
Pels pick to Philly for LAL pick(#10 overall)+Bayless(owed $9m, FA after 18'-19' season)
Moving up to the Lakers pick could secure one of Robert Williams, Miles Bridges, Zhaire Smith, maybe Young even falls to #10.

Lopez wasn't worth a 1st at the trade deadline. Now he's worth 2!?!? I too like eating cake, but c'mon man.

Adding an extra year of $15m salary on a negative, no-defense, chucker, post-ACL guard.

What do you guys think it would take to trade for Harrison Barnes?
Any other SFs to trade for?

I have watched him quite a bit. He is one of the most under-rated players in the league. Is he a top 2 option...definitely not. But, his reputation got screwed because of him struggling with GS. He is a role player but plays both sides of the ball and is not a liability on the court. He is a good piece for a contending team to add if they can take on salary but not for these Bulls, IMO.

His reputation got screwed because Dallas paid him as a number 1 option when he clearly is not.

It was pretty unnecessarily too, considering that Golden State wasn't going to match any competitive offer after getting Kevin Durant.

I think this would be a really nice team:
5: Carter
4: Lauri
3: Barnes
2: Lavine
1: Dunn
Then sign Tyreke Evans for real money to play 6th man.
I assume Bobby and some other stuff would have to go to get Barnes, not sure what though. Not sure if they'd give him up for anything reasonable that we'd offer.

That's great for us, but why exactly would Philly consider that? Bayless on an expiring has a bit of value in his own right....

Barnes is making 20M + per year. Awful contract. He's worth about 14-15M. If that.

1) Didn't see what we'd thought it would take to trade for Barnes? Dallas isn't gonna move him in a salary dump deal.
2) Yeah his contract isn't good, but maybe our 1st, plus Portis and Felicio.

Any chance of trading up with Orlando? They need a point guard and we have cap space to eat one of their bad contracts. Something like Asik or Lopez, NO and our pick for Biyombo and their pick. In this situation Doncic is off the board when they pick and they can wait for Young, Sexton or SGA

He has only 2 years left at approximately 49 million/2 years. That's great if you want to reboot after 2 years. But, he is a great fit if the Bulls somehow get Kawhi and add Barnes to it. But, Dallas might be thinking the same thing though. They have cap space and DSJ.
All that said, both Dallas and Chicago are not winning anything in the next 2 years or can acquire the talent to make Barnes the 3rd or 4th option and still pay him 49 million.

I don't understand why paying him his salary would be a problem for the Bulls. I'm by no means saying that our guys will be better than him (offensively), but you kind of have to bet that they will, cause if you wait to find out, you lose the opportunity to spend the cap space.
In a lineup of:
Carter
Lauri
Barnes
Lavine
Dunn
it's not really very clear to me what the hierarchy would be offensively. Probably Lauri is either 1 or 2, and Lavine is probably 1, 2, or 3, but Dunn, Barnes, and Carter could really be anywhere from 2 - 5 each.

Makes a lot of sense for Utah to go for Parker or Gordon this off-season. Thing is, they've got a lot of money locked up in guys. They'll have to forfeit Favors to make a big FA splash but even then I'm pretty sure they need to rid more salary, especially if they're keeping Exum. Burks is in 11m and out of the rotation. Wonder if taking that on could net us Utah's 1st (22nd right now, might finish a bit later). Burks isn't a massive salary and expires in 2019.

No he doesn’t. Expiring contracts themselves have no value (unless they are unguaranteed).
