So how do we keep our pick this year? We have to finish 6th? And what else?

Hear me out on this, do we really want the pick THIS year? I mean this team apparently valued DJ Wilson to the point they may have been trading up to get him as a “high floor player that can contribute right away” which is what Horst said was part of our draft strategy this year.

Wouldn’t shock me if this is his last off season here. Maybe it was Kidd and Thorn, maybe not, but just getting the pick out of the way may not be the worst thing. I’ll also add how embarrassing it is they put all that protection verbiage to ensure we didn’t give up the pick for years and we go and do this.

The protection this year seems like it was Phoenix idea.

You may be right, I was thinking collective "they", because I had no idea who thought that made good sense.

IF we do keep our pick, which is looking somewhat likely, then I'd like to take a long look at it he'll Robinson whose projected to be in our range. Seems like a guy who might have gone much higher if he had some colle*e tape to to on. But seems to have upside and excelled at the college level at what we need help with in being a dominant rebounder and a shot blocker which shows his defense potential

I’m with emmuney let’s figure out a trade that nets us Carter and Melton out of this draft

Melton has a high variance in where he's going to get picked. I could see borderline lottery as well as second round. There are a few players out there who can play a similar role as him, so I wouldn't pigeonhole myself into drafting him.

Honestly I don't think it's not going to be too hard to trade up in the 3-7 range. Depending on where the balls drop, I could see any of the Suns, Grizzlies, Kings, Knicks, Cavs or 76ers picks being available.

E.g. if the Grizzlies don't get top 2 S&T Jabari + our pick for Parsons + this years pick. The Suns and Kings want to improve and make the PO's, the Knicks are going to do whatever, and if LeBron stays the BKN/Cavs pick might be in play. That LAL/PHY pick might be in play for playoff push.

And even if we don't get Wendell, there are a few guys that fit currently mocked in the lottery that could fit very well, e.g. Jackson, Bamba, Young, Mikal Bridges and Zhaire Smith.

That was during the season. He's probably improved his explosiveness and has two more month just preparing for the combine. I fully expect him to get close or break 45".

The amount of effort to get your vert from 27 to 30 is probably about 10000 times easier than getting your vert from 42 to 45.

Sure, but by combine time that measurement was a year ago. Smith isn't even 19, his body was (and probably still is) growing on him. He did that in the tournament:

He's definately up there with the best athletes of previous classes.

You can't sign and trade jabari for a pick since free agency is after the draft. Plus no one is giving up a top 10 pick for the right to give him a very risky contract.

Overall the top 9 is really strong this year, I can't see any team wanting to drop back.

If the bucks keep the pick zaire smith would be a super fun pick, dude has star potential. Kind of doubt he drops that far.

Jontay porter would be a solid get at 16.

Eh 42” or 45” obviously he has hops, he needs to be working on his handle so he can do more than oops and put backs
