Re: Fake Trade Thread
I think the Nets would dump Lin in a second if they could and Lin is smart enough to know his desire to start is pretty much over with.. The problem is will Lin actually stay healthy? He has played 37 games the past 2 seasons and turns 30 in a few months. To go along with that, what will Lin be like if he does stay healthy? Can be be anywhere near the player he was?

Re: Fake Trade Thread
There is no way to know how Lin's recovery is going to go. He may never play again.
Even with that risk though I would be for trading for him. I don't think that Wes would really move the needle much, given the depth the team already has. I would rather swing for the fences and gamble that we get some % of Lin back. Worst case is that Lin would come off the books after next season.
From the Net's perspective though I think that they have been playing Russell at SG some, so it's not clear to me that the Nets would jump on a trade. A healthy Lin would be a big difference maker for them.

My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu

You'd really rather have MKG, Matthews, Lamb, Batum, Monk, Bacon, and Graham all fighting for minutes at the SG and SF and still not have a serviceable backup PG?
Monk can play PG and MKG/Batum/Graham can play PF (maybe Bacon as well). There are plenty of ways to find minutes for wings. Also, we might not be able to keep Treveon.
If I knew Lin could still play id prefer him over Matthews, but Lin might be pretty much done or at least significantly worse than he was pre-injury, so id be weary of trading someone like Wes, who we know can still drain 3s and play a little D, for Lin without knowing how well hes recovered.

Offer something to Utah for Rubio. He is almost a perfect fit and he is expiring.
Marv and Bacon/Graham for Rubio.

Lin's value is probably pretty low right now, so I don't think it's gonna take much to get him. Low risk and potentially a high reward

Marv for Rubio
Cody + pick (preferably 2019 lightly protected 1st) for Khris Middleton or similarly good wing
New coach
Kemba/Rubio
Middleton/Monk
Batum/Lamb
Frank/MKG
Dwight/Willy
Not sure if a deal like that for Cody or Howard would be availabe, but something like that would probably be our best bet at retooling to try to keep Kemba. Maybe Cody or Dwight has enough value that you could trade one of them without a 1st attached for a wing to replace MKG/Batum in the starting lineup who isn't as good as Middleton, but still a decent upgrade.

Re: Fake Trade Thread
A 3 trade thingy.
1- Marv and Bacon for Rubio
2- Cody to the Bulls for Lopez and 21.
3- Dwight and 11 to Dallas for Matthews and Kleber and 34.
To simplify things.
We trade Marvin, Bacon, Cody and Dwight + 11th for Rubio (backup PG/Expiring), Matthews (SG/SF/expiring), Lopez (center depth/expiring) Kleber (super cheap PF that shoots threes) and 21st/34th picks.
Kemba-Rubio
Nic-Monk-Graham
MKG-Wes
Frank-Kleber
Robin-Willy
pick BPA at 21 (preferably a PF/C) and pick BPA at 34 (preferably a SF/SG)
I think that team fits better and helps a lot with our cap space.

If you attach the 11 to someone to get nothing of value then Nic better be the one on the way out. No way does it make any sense to attach the 11 to Dwight for garbage when he is expiring.

I'm not OK with Dwight + 11 for Wes, Kleber & 34.
And why would the Jazz trade Rubio? I like him, but I don't understand why they would do that.

Those trades are about getting the team to fit better and getting more expiring so we can keep kemba.
trading dwight to dallas is about clearing the center logjam some and getting better fits. Trading 11 is fine since we get 21 in another trade. maybe try for a future first too.
Jazz trade Rubio to get better depth in other positions (they move Favors to backup C and Jae to SF) and Exum is playing really well so I figure since they invested a very high pick in him that they'd want to get him more minutes next season.

I'm OK with Dwight for Wes. Not OK with attaching the #11, even with the other stuff.
Honestly have no idea what happens with Exum next season, but the Jazz were a great team once everyone adjusted, trades were done, and guys were back from injury. Not sure you mess with that formula if I'm the Jazz.

Trading the 11 isn’t fine. I would rather drop the 21 in there but it is still a massive overpay. It just seems like a bad trade all around.

I like JDR's line of thinking with those trades, but there is no way we'd give up 11 in that Dallas trade. Dwight and Matthews are contract neutral, so theres no reason we'd need to give up pick 11 for Matthews. Hes worth a 2nd rounder or two without considering Dwights value.

Re: Fake Trade Thread
Dwight has more vakue than some of you think.
The draft pick needs to stay put. Can get a solid young player there to pair with Monk just in case we do decide to eventually trade Kemba

I would love to move MKG + Marvin via the draft pick for a solid starter.

Re: Fake Trade Thread
I'm not too keen on trading our pick, but just trying to be open to all possibilities... here's a random, kind of radical trade idea
MKG, Zeller, and our pick for Whiteside and Winslow
This board is going to unanimously hate this trade. Yeah, probably a little steep (would prefer to do next year's lotto-protected pick) but if Kupchak wants to revamp the roster without rebuilding, here we end up getting the best player in the deal, a young player with some untapped upside, we cut salary (both players are on contracts that are a year shorter) and our defense should improve quite a bit (Whiteside and Winslow are both top-6 in DRPM for their respective positions). There might be enough defense here to allow us to start Kemba and Monk if Monk continues to explode next season. Follow up trade would be Dwight for George Hill or something.
Starters: Kemba-Lamb-Winslow-Marvin-Whiteside
Bench: Hill-Monk-Batum-Frank-Willy
Why for Miami... they don't have their 2018 or 2021 first round picks and Whiteside could be on the move. They're also the kind of team that could probably get the most out of MKG and Zeller.

Miami fans proposed Dwight for Whiteside straight up. I think that sending a pick for that would be way overpay.

Re: Fake Trade Thread
This year's draft is probably too good to trade out of. You wouldn't trade next year's pick?
The way I look at it... Whiteside > Zeller. Winslow > MKG or at least has more upside / better fit. Plus we shed long-term salary.
The problem with trading Dwight is that we would be taking in long-term salary in exchange for an expiring, would we even be able to resign Kemba in a Dwight/Whiteside swap?
