Last season, the Rangers and Mariners were in a race to see who could underachieve more. The Mariners GM did something crazy. He basically re-vamped the entire pitching rotation and pen. It backfired badly because he didn't think Felix Hernandez's injury would catch up with them. It did.
At the end of the day, Cashman has an affinity towards only certain agents. He didn't like that Cano went out and signed with Jay-Z's crew. When Cano's new entourage went all in, Cashman didn't hesitate to close up shop.
It's a bitter ending to a great player in New York.
It'll be interesting to see in six seasons, Cano will be 41 and still making over $24M. I think the Mariners try to move this guy in 2 seasons. Their team is godawful.
