Building around KP is our direction right now. Getting players that fit his timeline. That means getting younger. Developing youth and a defensive identity is the plan. This isn't 2k here. You have to actually use a thought process other then selecting names from a list and pressing a button.
We have SEVERAL young players to work with now. Finding out who sticks and filling in the gaps is the next phase. The HC will determine the actual identity around the roster they JUST STARTED putting together.
Frank/Burke/Timmy/Dotson/Baker/Troy/Kornet(?)/lottery pick/ high 2nd rd pick/KP healing. That's your foundation right now. Kanter is anyone's guess. The rest of the team we hope to contend with isn't here yet. Crawl...walk...run. That's the process. Patience.
We're building around KP by recycling role players? Great plan and direction. We're def. going places
I remember why your on my list...you are forever a contrarian and you spin BS to suit your sad sack attitude. Whatever. Your opinion is a miserable one.
I'm a contrarian because I'm not gullible like you to believe the BS from our crappy front office? Mmmmmkay
You keep telling yourself we're on the right track and I'll just look over to the draft board and see teams in our conference who are already stacked and currently taking care of business in the playoffs yet still have more draft picks than us in this draft. But hey, we have a broken franchise player, a project guard and the 9th pick. Lets goooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!! I'm hype!

Perry was VPOBO not the GM or the POBO. He signed who to what?

But the first 3 game winning streak, that approach is going out the window.
we've embraced the tank the last two years and ended up picking 9th
no matter what we do we can't be as bad as teams like BK, Phx, etc
The tank has never been embraced.
This is the first full Melo-less season and yet still there were hella vets on this team getting major minutes all year.

they started off the year expecting to be bad...but with the soft schedule and KP coming out like a crazy man...they won enough games to put this idea in there head they are a competitive team. Then I think peoples in the knicks said "why not"...eventually things settled down we started to suck even with KP...then it came crashing down when he got injured.
I think they were just covering all there bases. They didn't prioritize winning at the beginning of the season...they prioritized development and defense. When they started to play decent ball the threw development and defense to the wind and started to play for the playoffs...it was clear as day especially with someone like Franks minutes.

Jeff had the team in the playoff hunt for 32 games of the season. HE was trying to make the playoffs. The FO didn't push for that. They said they would let him do his own thing. That's all. Let's not rewrite history.

In all honesty thats human nature. KP was playing at an MVP level and if that was good enough for playoffs then that means we are far ahead of schedule. However KP regressed and we sucked again. The winning felt good therefore guys wanted to win. I totally get it.
Jeff on the other hand was playing vets when the younger guys gave him a better chance. He had motives. The front office said clear as day it would be a process. A couple wins and a lit MSG had them in their feelings.
I dont believe Jeff was on the same page as the front office. Thats why they did him so dirty.

drekwins wrote:I really think that Dolan gets too much hate nowadays. Early on, yes, he definitely tried to rule with the Steinbrenner mentality... in a league with a cap. However, our terrible (gulp) two decades can all be summed up by 4 key things:
1) The Ewing trade followed by Allan Houston's contract. These 2 moves killed us cap-wise and started the domino effect of trying to rebuild on-the-run.
2) Isiahs willingness to give up draft picks and cap space for potentially dynamic but flawed players with bad attitudes. Continued our horrid cap situation and had no chance of working with those guys. Isiah struggled at understanding that few have the same killer instinct as him. The sexual harassment case just turned it ugly.
3) Amare's injury and Melo's stubbornness to adapt to the new style of play. Lots of blame has to go to Walsh and Dolan on this. Walsh took a gamble on Amar'e and would have gotten away with it if he didn't blow the amnesty. He also greatly undervalued the PG positon at a time when the game was transitioning. We went big and the rest of the league went small. Once Amar'e got hurt, JR Smith became our 2nd option. Dolan has to be to blame for the Melo deal. In addition, he also vetoed the Lowry deal for Shumpert. However, in the long run, the amnesty blunder hurt us much more than anything. All of our flexibility was gone and we had no chance of ever getting a dynamic guard. Melo also refused to play the 4 even though it was his best position.
4) Phil's terrible interpersonal skills and management combined with his disregard for the modern game. Before understanding the roster, Phil was set on just changing everything. He also had no concept of today's NBA or player.
Dolan plays a part in all of this but he definitely took a back seat and let Phil do his thing. Phil was just not good at his job and really unaccepting of how the game has changed. He's a smart guy but I question his knowledge on advanced stats and how the rule changes have affected the style of play. Before Phil, Dolan also allowed Walsh and DAntoni to lose for 2 years before even attempting to win. That takes a lot of sacrifice from an owner.
On the bright side, he's willing to spend for those that deserve it. The first step to get out of this hole is to accept how the game is played nowadays and find 2-way players that fit.
Some really interesting points here. But Walsh wasn't the one who went after Tyson Chandler. That was Dolan and it reeked of a publicity stunt.

every coach is trying to win. it's up to the front office to put out a roster that can't.

We were trying to be respectable for sure but not necessarily be a playoff team. I dont know if there was a real plan.

you're all kidding me with this jeff went against the front office stuff. who brought the vets here ? who refused to trade any ? jeff is supposed to try to win. he's being used as a patsy.

i agree...mills/perry are to blame for this...they brought in the vets...they didn't trade anyone at the deadline. Jeff didn't sign Hardaway...
THey could have fired jeff if he wasn't there coach to start the year. Jeff was coaching for his NBA life of course he is going to try to win especially if he was probably going to get fired which everyone thought would happen.

why you asking me ? i never mentioned perry or claimed anything about signings. ask the OP. i was just pointing out the moves were crap as opposed to "solid".
