Its not a trade im totally in love with. It makes you think of the semantics of drafting Bagley. In the end i guess im kinda forcing a square peg into a round hole forcing 6’11 Bags to play center. At 19 may even grow another inch.

He may struggle at center like Bosh did in Miami but in chicago bags would have frontline help via Lauri not a Haslem type.
These giants will eventually transition to only playing center anyways as their mobility decreases.

Picks are our salvation. If there was a sure-fire LBJ, Durant, etc. generational guy available at 3, yes, but I don't see that in this draft...it's a deeper draft with a potential gem available at 22. I'd rather keep 22. That said, it depends what the picks really are. If we're 6 and Dallas is 3, I'm less excited...don't see that much risk/reward difference in that expected group, But if Dallas gets 2, which guarantees me Ayton or Doncic, I'd be down with packaging 6 with Portis and (non-pick) parts for 2.

I think we have a realistic shot at a 2nd lottery pick. We add the additional pick primarily by taking on salary, #22, offering expiring contracts, and/or young talent (BP/Val really only players id be willing to trade of value). With only a handful of teams w/ cap space, teams will be looking to unload deals. Personally I'd rather take on a vet w a bad deal then overpay Jabari, Aaron Gordon, or Noel if it means adding another rook. Im looking at 3 teams at the end on the lotto that are arguably all "wanting to push for playoffs":

Hornets (#11) - Batum has 3y/76m. Zeller (3/43)
& Marvin Williams (2/29m) are both overpaid too. Already have $119,578,294 on the books. CHA could also deal Kemba/DH and blow it up, not sure if that hurts/helps.

Clippers (#12/#13) - Gallinari has 2/44m & Boban 1/7m. Gal is awful, however I dont think Ballmer is worried about money . Clips likely have more interest in BP/Val over cap relief. $112,084,211 already on the books, but Deandre/Rivers can both opt out.

Nuggets (#14) - Faried ($13.7m exp) + Arthur ($7.4m expiring). So close to playoffs, both Faried/Arthur barely see the court. Barton & Jokic need new deals, but $107m on the books already.

I personally don't have Bagley as high of a prospect and if we were to move up like this I would hope it's for MPJ or JJJ. But I'd probably pass on this deal, picks 3 thru 6/7 are on a fairly flat tier (though I like JJJ and MPJ a bit more than the rest), and MPJ specifically has a real possibility of being there at 6. If we could get the Mavs 34th pick back that'd make this more palatable, especially if they fall in love with MPJ and want to guarantee getting him.

Depends what the scouts say closer to the draft, but if Porter has concerns, Trae and Bamba look overrated or like 1-way liabilities... Yeah, I mean, I'll dump Portis and 22 if it means moving up for a more sure-bet like Doncic or Bagley.

This was suggested in the trade board -

Batum and 11 for Lopez/Valentine/22/Asik

Batum is a pretty shocking contract but I quite like this deal. And who knows, maybe Batum can gain some value and be flipped with less negative value than before.

Word is Heat might be trying to trade Whiteside this offseason. How does everyone feel about Lopez and Asik for Whiteside?

Lopez has more tools on offense and will be a positive in the locker room as opposed to the drama that Whiteside has apparently been. Asik can be waived for only 3 mil next year so they'll save money next year too.

We take a gamble with his attitude but we get a good rebounder and rim protector to play next to Lauri. If Fred can get him to play at his best then great. If not we still have Lauri who is 7ft and 2 first round picks this year that we could use on a C to slowly groom to replace Whiteside down the road. High Risk / High Reward move but since half the board wants to continue to tank anyway, what do we have to lose?

Obviously depends on pick position in lotto. Also, while not a good locker room guy - seemingly, the Heat should get more than that for Whiteside...his contract is only 2 more years IIRC. Would likely take Portis and Pels pick to get that deal done.

I think Heat go into rebuild mode and try to dump Dragic too.

I'm thinking this deal say Knicks, all the way. Whiteside (and maybe Dragic) for their pick and filler could work, but it presupposes that KP is coming back next season, which is in doubt.

Thanks for the imput. Something about Bagley to the Bulls gave me shades of Kareem abdul jabbar.

Dont know why because i see him as Bosh for everyone else, but now i see it

Way too much money to take on just for the 11 - especially if you want to be a player in FA in 2019 or 2020.
Batum will also be 30 in December - Age doesn't line up with our core...

Besides, I think 22 & Portis alone will get you into the 12-15 range...

I would take back Barnes and his contract to complete our rebuild in 1 move.

We will have Pick #3 then to add to:

Dunn / Payne / Blakeney
Zach / Holiday / Valentine
Barnes / Valentine / Nwaba
Lauri / Barnes / Vonleh
Lopez / Felicio / Vonleh

That's it. Home run.

Whoops! Good catch. Add a GAP there that needs to be addressed with a small dollar player.

I'd love to do that trade, but I'd prefer sending Felicio instead of Asik in order to offset some of the long term money committed to Batum. Deal is still fair, and it shaves some money off upfront for Charlotte. We could even swap Lamb for Holiday if needed.

Id easily do that deal. But like the poster above said, would try to give felicio over Asik.

That would go in line with my personal plan of going all in for the AD/Giannis FA class of 2021. Batums money comes off going into that offseason. Felicios does too if he was kept.

Lavine 20 mil (hopefully no more)
Lauri 16 mil cap hold
Dunn 13 mil (completely random, not sure where his value will be until after the next season)
2018 Bulls 1st
2018 Hornets 1st
2019 Bulls 1st
2020 Bulls 1st
2021 Bulls 1st

Throw a max at either one.

Thats why id also be ok with Deng, Cavs 1st, and bulls 2nd back for cap space. Get as many rookie contracts as possible and be good in 2020-21 season to lure AD or Giannis to take the team over the top with Lauri.

Portis, Asik, Holiday, Valentine, 6th, and 22nd to the Spurs for Kawhi

Return to Chicago Bulls
