Too much future salary going to Spurs. If Spurs need to trade Kwahi, consider Markannen gone.

It starts and ends with #6 + Lauri for Kwahi. The rest is all moving parts.

That's cap relief AND talent coming in for San Antonio. That's the ONLY way they touch any Kwahi trade.

Dunn / Payne
Zach / Holiday
Kwahi / Valentine
Portis / Vonleh
Lopez / Felicio / Asik

We are weak at PF ...but it's not the end of the world.

And we'd have to resign Nwaba to give us some wing depth because Kwahi and Zach are both coming off serious injuries.

How about Portis, Holiday and Shrek to BKN for LeVert and Mozgov?

I am a big LeVert fan and think it is an opportunity to both get value back from Portis (who'd be a perfect fit next to Allen) and take back the corpse of Moz to cut a year off of Shrek's bad deal.

Spurs laugh Gar and Pax off the phone and never answer his calls again. Maybe if we win the lotto and offer that package with a top 3 pick, maybe.

Let’s say Paul George opts out and leaves OKC. Melo opts in. OKC decides to cut salary to save on luxury tax. Trade: Melo plus asset(s) for Asik. Bulls and Melo would negotiate buyout. Feasible?

One problem is that OKC doesn't have many assets.

Also who will they sign to replace Melo? I know Melo isn't the player that he once was, but OKC is limited with what they can do.

Yes, it would have to be some combo of swaps and seconds. It just seems to me the Bulls have little downside to a deal like this since they’re likely sitting out free agency.

OKC is in such a bad spot. There is no good solution.

Melo might accept a trade if OKC says he will come off the bench next year. He flirted with coming to CHI before so he might go for it. Send them bad contracts in Felicio/Asik plus a young prospect in B. Portis. We get an expering to go all in with the 2019 Free Agency

The more I think about, maybe it could work after all. If the Bulls pre-agreed to buy him out with Melo getting almost all his money or even agreed to a flat out release, he might waive the no-trade. He’d get paid and also be a free agent to join whatever team his friends are on.

Leonard, Melo, (insert any injured or aging, high salaried current or former superstar)....Why acquire them now? Do any of them make us a championship contender next year? No. By the time our youngsters might be ready for a longer playoff run those high priced, post-peak, aging players will be nothing more than a salary albatross preventing us from keeping important rotation pieces. I think the league is undergoing a subtle shift away from the teams who think having 3 older superstars is the way to win. It isn't hard to find examples of the failure of this approach. The OK Thunder are the prime example. They traded away young and up-and-coming talent for an aging superstar that's never won anything in the NBA (Melo), and for Paul George who is not likely going to stay. The Thunder will be left with Westbrook and ??? The way of the future is going to be flexible position-less players who can shoot, defend and share the ball. I think that is where the Bulls are headed. I don't see them taking on a high priced superstar through Free Agency or Trade unless someone like The Brow expresses an interest in putting us over the top in 2020.

The only trade I would pursue at this time is possibly packaging the #22 pick and one of our rotation pieces to see if we can move up in the draft this year. Perhaps #22 and Valentine. Or #22 and Portis. What those might get us and how much higher we'd move up is an unknown. But I'd at least pursue it. If can get a better slot maybe we can get a starter level small forward if we go big with our own pick, or we can get Mitchell or Jontay Porter is we get MPJ or Mikal Bridges with our own pick.

Here's an idea for a Jimmy 2019 plan:

S&T Zach and 22nd pick for Khris Middleton and delevadova. Middleton will be opting out after this season, bucks can get value now and a young piece that fits with greek, a 1st and relief on dellys deal.

With our excess cap space, renogotiate Khris' contract (ala what the Sixers did with covington) bringing his 2018-19 up to let's say 25M and then sign a 4 year extension for say 90M (starting at 18M in 2019). Khris gets double the 2018 salary he would've made, bulls use their excess cap space they wouldn't have used anyways and get a better deal on the extension (as the money washes out for Khris getting the 2018 boost).

Draft bamba at 6.

Sign Jimmy max deal 2019 offseason.

2019/20 bulls

Khris Middleton
Jimmy Butler
Lauri markannen
Mo Bamba

The ship has sailed on Jimmy. I wouldn't touch him with a max deal. Especially not after his injury this year. That injury is the canary in the coal mine. Players age rapidly playing for Thibs. They just do. Butler is 34 years old in Thibs years. He has peaked. You'd be paying for past production within a few years of inking him to a deal. You sign guys whose career trajectory is heading upward. Not on a player who has probably peaked. And as much as I liked up and coming Jimmy in 2013-2015, he was starting to take on diva characteristics all too typical in top 15 Players. Too much isolation hero ball. Middleton is pretty good too. But again, he is at his peak or close to it. He's had past injuries. We can get the same type of production offensively and better defensively just by drafting Mikal Bridges. Bridges would be younger, cheaper, and getting better.

We have to complete our transformation into a younger, longer, better shooting, better passing, better defensive squad with up and coming starters and valuable rotation pieces that play as a team and will grow as a team. This next year is key. If Lavine doesn't pan out...the 2019 Draft will offer up a lot of elite wing talent. But GarPax is going to proceed with the rebuild. And if they are smart they are looking at the up and coming teams in the East that we will have to compete against. We need to add players that can compete against a team like Philly, who is going to the Team to beat in the East for the next several years (until the egos start butting heads).

I like Mikal, I really do. I'd like the Bulls to go after him, but 6th might be a bit of a reach (assuming we stay there after lottery).

So here's the deal. Would the Knicks accept a swap of 6th for 9th, plus taking on Shrek's salary for expiring? I think they're sitting outside of getting a superstar at 9th, but at 6th, they have a chance at MPJ, Bamba, or Young. I think see that possibility being enticing enough for a franchise like the Knicks.

I would also trade Portis + 22nd to LAC for 13th, draft Miles Bridges

Then in FA, I think this is the year where we have the pieces in place for Lebron (a brother can dream right? :D ) So you can hit Lebron with the max, and Capela with the near max. I am not much of a cap person, but I think we can still re-sign Lavine (4/$75mil, if he signs an offer for more than that, let him go. Hopefully we can sell him on playing next to Lebron to sign for less.). Sign Hezonja to a 4 year deal for the MLE (will be around 4/$40mil I believe).

Team will be something like

Dunn/Payne
Lavine/Hezonja/Kilpatrick
Lebron/Mikal/Valentine
Lauri/Miles
Capela/Lopez/Asik

Very deep and versatile team on paper. Will be an expense one though.

Now's the prime time to scoop up Oubre or Otto Porter....

What does it cost if we take Mahinmi to get Oubre also??

Oubre is interesting but not if it costs paying mahinmi 30M over the next 2 years while also having to likely overpay oubre on his extension. If theres a deal to be had it should involve bobby and/or denzel for oubre and filler like jason smith.

Otherwise I'd rather go after hezonja for much cheaper (i.e. no mahinmi and likely cheaper contract too).

Went straight to their board and the most recent post is someone wanting to trade Oubre for #23 (Indiana). I'd happily one up that and give them the Pels pick.

Will further shorten our cap space window once we have to extend him as well though.

Man, that'd be a hell of a draft day... We'd obviously have Ayton, Bagley, JJJ, Bamba, or Carter, with our own pick. One of them, plus Oubre, added to what we've got, would be extremely fun. Especially if we somehow got Ayton.

Would you really want Melo tanking 15 shots away from Markkanen, Dunn and LaVine. He doesn't seem like the guy of that is ready to to step aside and mentor young players. I could be wrong though. I would not trade Portis for Melo so this is non-starter though. At least not right now. Maybe a mid-season move like the Lakers did to clear cap space.

Why are people so high on Oubre? He isn't a difference maker and will probably want a huge deal like Porter got(yuck). Other than LaVine I want to save our money to go after some stars in the future.
