Tatum is great - not sure he needs to 'fill out' though. This hoping guys change body type stuff is the worst part of realgm. I hope we don't spend seasons talking bout how Tatum needs to gain weight aka reverse Sully.

Some dudes are Mikki Moore and some guys are Shaq. Genetics is huge factor in this - especially in hoops where guys have to run all the damn time..

You make a great point but I think Tatum’s shoulders suggest he will get bigger naturally like most 19 yo men do.

Yeah. The kid is 20. No man has a fully developed body at 20 years old. Heck, look at Gordon Hayward now as opposed to when he entered the league. KG is another example.

Tatum will naturally gain weight and fill out.

So.. Has anyone noticed how much better Tatum plays without Brown on the floor..? He's essentially a 19/6 player as a rookie. That's going to have to be a topic of debate this summer in Boston.. esp. with Hayward returning.

Still this. Aggressive Tatum has a chance to be a top 5 player in this league. It’s all in his head

You can look at the stats, and both basic and advanced stats show Tatum as superior, but you can also see it watching them. Jaylen is dependent on getting hot from outside to have a big night, where Tatum can go 1-5 from 3 like game 1 and still drop 28 points on 16 shots.

Jaylen will be the better defender but Tatum is clearly going to be a plus defender himself. People can talk about Jaylens advantage with athleticism, but it's not like Tatum isnt a good athlete. Jaylen to me will be a guy who makes a few all star teams, and a lot of all defensive teams. A 18-20/6/3 guy with really good D, Tatum looks like he can be a 25/6/4 type of guy while being a really good defender.

Brown seems like a Harrison Barnes. Tatum a Paul George.

Do people here still think Brown is better than Tatum?

I’ve said during the season that Tatum is one another level.

Taking nothing away from Brown, he is a good player in his on right. We know he is recovering from a hamstring injury. But this is before the injury. Tatum is special man, he is doing things for a rookie that is hasn’t been done since Larry Bird.

Tatum just became the only Celtic rookie in the team’s history to score 20 or more points in 5 straight playoff games. He passed one of the greatest players in the history of the game. Bird had 4 straight games of 20 or more points in the playoffs. Tatum is playing better in the playoffs than he did in the regular season. It’s truly amazing to watch.

Brown has been hurt - we have not seen Brown's best in the last few games. Remember he scored 30ppg in a playoff game.. Obviously Brown cares more about the team then his image as the C's best young talent..

Lol cmon Brown is still hurt right now, you can make a case he was our best player before the hammy game. Brown is still impactful since he’s returned and there’s no doubt the Celtics wouldn’t be 3-0 if he didn’t play. But Tatum has always had the more talent, when he’s aggressive he’s better of the two. But both are so damn special in my eyes.

I think Tatum has potential to be better than Paul George. He has this rangy contortionist thing about his game, to go with his first step, and unique handle and length. He's unbelievable.

Brown has been excellent but in a more traditional way. I will say, Browns work ethic is off the charts. Whatever he can be, he will be.

Brown makes more things happen on the court, more impactful. Tatum is a great driver, both shoot well. Both have improved so much since the start of the year that I can't wait to see them by this time next year.

He WILL be better than Paul George. Here's a fun fact: Tatum shot better from the floor in his rookie season than George has in ANY of his eight years in the league. Tatum hit 47.5 percent of his shots and 43.4 percent of his threes this year. George's career highs for each of those categories are 46.1 percent and 40.1 percent with career averages of 43.2 percent and 37.6 percent.

Brown's already a better defender and a better shooter than Barnes probably ever was.
Good assessment:

Remember when a bunch of guys here wanted Barnes and thought he was a mini Paul Pierce?

Good times.

Yup Tatum is going to be better than George imo. I see a Durant level player if he ever reaches his ceiling. I think he’s that special and was better than KD at this age.

Lost in the well deserved Tatum worship were all the outstanding 50-50 plays Brown made in crunch time. When Terry stole the ball, Brown had the alertness to be there for pass. His layup on Brad’s great TO play. Numerous deflections to keep rebounds alive. Most of it was under the radar.

I think the best thing possible for this team would be for this debate to rage on for 2-3 more years. Healthy competition between friends will compel them both to greater heights.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

This is a great problem to have.. Tatum has surely looked great - and I think overall his game is 'smoother' and more professional. Brown is a bit raw - but he seems dedicated to his craft - and has really improved his J for example. He is legit dangerous and confident out there..

Tatum is essentially going to be KD-lite if he reaches his full potential (which could be a Top 10 Player). I say "lite" though in the nicest way possible, because actually watching and appreciating how good Tatum is...has allowed me to fully grasp how unfair it is that someone like KD exists.

Tatum essentially has a lesser version of the basic skillset that KD has, but on top of it KD is a legit 7 footer.

He's going to have to develop a superior skillset to KD if he wants to be considered at or above KD....and I don't know how likely that is...but Jayson you might as well try to attempt to make it to that level!
