With all the press’s talk of Hamptons 5, and air of annoying superiority critics like to put on Warriors, for me what is most impressive about Dubs is idegree to which the stars on the team — including most of all Thompson but really all of them — have been willing to be selfless — financially but even more importantly in their play

Feel bad for Casey but ...they likely can’t get rid of their big contracts and ..
It’s not a good look to get out coached by Tyrone Lue.
And Demarre Carroll was right, and it shouldn’t have taken until this year for Raptors to change their style of play, and that’s on Casey IMO

I'm seeing Brad Stevens win with Pistons rejects like Marcus Morris, Aron Baynes, and Greg Monroe, and a bunch of rookies and second years. Yeah, okay, Tatum and Brown are fantastic. Horford is an anchor. But Rozier is playing out of his mind. I need LKIRNets or someone to break down how the Celtics are winning. Clearly the team defense is the best in the NBA, I just can't articulate what they're doing exactly.

Re: Around the NBA, 2017-18 Season thread
The Celtics have done a great job putting together a roster with a lot of length, toughness, speed, and physical strength. They also have multidimensional players who can shoot, put ball on floor, and pass.
Most impressive to me is how disciplined and calm and MATURE they are. They lock into their assignments and roles. They make very few mistakes. And they remain poised even in high stress moments. Brad Stevens said he has never coached a team that has been so good at turning the page after they make a mistake, and you can see that.
Marcus Morris was I thought key to their strong start, putting together a couple of strong sequences to take them from 4-7 to 21-7 or whatever it was. After that, they never really looked back
Today for first time this Celtics team made me think of the young Warriors teams of a few years ago on cusp of breaking out. They understand the moment (unlike the Sixers at times) and want to take advantage of it But they are also having a lot of fun out there.
They were impressive today.
Cavs defense was also exposed. The first round Cavs I think might be better indication of what we will see in this series than the second round Cavs.
--
This ramps up the volume on the importance of Rockets v. Warriors Game I ... IMO. Warrriors do not want to be in the Cavs position heading into Game 2 against an already scary Houston team

^Cavs defense wasn't exposed. Take a look at their defensive metrics on the season. What you saw today was a feature, not a bug.
It doesn't help that Lue is about to get taken to coaching school by Stevens.

Brown and Tatum are studs. those guys are legit star young players... thats what young studs look like. not levert. Brown is an absolutely beast on both ends. Tatum is the perfect modern day wing. they defender 1 through 9 in their rotation and they share the ball and they all play hard.
they are what we would look like if we had talent.

they still have lebron and role players do worse on the road. the cavs at worst take this 7... celtics have a real shot since game 7 would be in boston. but dont count lebron out on this,.

Brown is 48%/41% FG/3PT in the playoffs
we need more talent to even think we'll ever be on Boston or Philly's level. Brown and Tatum are headed towards becoming the best SG/SF combo in the east since Jordan and Pippen for **** 's sake.
And yet, Billy King takes a xanax and sleeps soundly at night with millions in the bank.

I'm not counting Lebron out. he's not the reason why Cleveland is bad defensively. but they were out of sorts in that 2nd half big time. George Hill couldn't even get the offense initiated properly. Game 2 should be interesting.

I agree, their defense was bad in regular season too.
... Game 2 will be fascinating. LeBron is saying he has now scoped out how Celtics are going to play him. But somehow I don't see Brad Stevens being done with all his tricks.
Chess match between two great basketball minds in LeBron and Brad Stevens. Great to see.

How does Aron Baynes shoot 4-28 on 3PT (14%) career, and then 9-19 (47%) in the playoffs?

I applaud Marcus Smart for not punching JR Smith in the face just now. He should have gotten his ass beat for that
That was a flagrant 2, he literally pushed the dude in mid air. no way is that a flagrant 1. the NBA's officiating is such trash that should have been an immediate ejection

The refs were scared. They didn't want to be accused of impacting the flow of the game too much.MrDollarBills wrote:I applaud Marcus Smart for not punching JR Smith in the face just now. He should have gotten his ass beat for that

But yeah, as Mark Jackson said...that's a fight on the playground. If the refs would've turned their backs for 10 seconds and let Smart go off, I wouldn't have been mad at all lol.

Re: Around the NBA, 2017-18 Season thread
^^these bull **** refs wait til the ECF to have a moral compass? that was a flagrant 2 EASILY. he should have been ejected.
If Irving and Heyward were in the series, I'd advocate Smart taking a one game suspension if he threw a punch because Smith was unprepared for what could have really happened. that warranted a right hook to the chin. you don't push someone like that in mid air. Boston's depth is pretty much shot so I understand why punching JR Smith's lights out would be a bad idea when you're about to go up 2-0
however that's an immediate fight on blacktop or hardwood flooring. it doesn't matter. Smith is lucky Horford is the type that settles it within the game's parameters because i'm not sure that's the kind of dude i'd want charging at me
kudos to Marcus Smart. that was maximum restraint. i would like to have a player like him on the Nets.
