Pelicans coach and GM express interest in keeping DeMarcus Cousins and Rajon Rondo next season

Spoiler:
The biggest question facing the New Orleans Pelicans this offseason is what in the world to do with DeMarcus Cousins. The answer, to Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry, is simple: Get him back. With the Pelicans' offseason underway, Cousins is an unrestricted free agent this summer, and the team would like to lock him back up.

"We want DeMarcus back on our team," Gentry said during his exit press conference for the season. "Everybody has said that."

Gentry also alluded to the importance of keeping a core in place. Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday are already under contract for next season, and Gentry apparently thinks of Cousins as part of that core.

General manager Dell Demps reaffirmed the team's interest in re-signing Cousins, saying that "in a perfect world" the Pelicans would be able to keep both Cousins and Rajon Rondo, who was fantastic at point for the Pelicans in the playoffs.

Before he tore his Achilles at the end of January -- sidelining him for the season -- Cousins was averaging 25.2 points per game, 12.9 total rebounds and 5.4 assists. After his injury, the Pelicans stumbled in the first games without him before finishing the season on a scorching hot streak and making it to the second round of the playoffs, where they were eliminated in five games by the Warriors.

It's too early for this. We don't shamble over our offseason here in Pel south.

Etuwan Moore is going to have a breakout season next year, don't be surprised if he's sixth man of the year

If you guys were to wrap up Cousins long term, would you consider a trade for Anthony Davis that included Kyrie Irving in return?

Cousins / Davis was and possibly is duplication at the spot...the C's could have a top 5 or higher draft pick to offer either this year or next depending and perhaps a guy like Marcus Morris to match salary with...Hayward, Rozier, Tatum, Brown and perhaps Marcus Smart would likely be off the table though....But we are loaded with good role players that have kept us relevant despite all of the injuries..That might be the best offer you would see for AD and if he should decide to seek free agency when his contract is up, you might not get much past this season?...Kyrie is a blue chipper....And you might not be able to max both Cousins and AD if you were able lure that third guy...Playoff Rondo was pretty good...but we all know that he doesn't play that way every game....just saying?

Any interest...if not that's OK....Just wondering what some of you thought about those possibilities?

DeMarcus Cousins unfollows Pelicans on Instagram, perhaps signaling the end of his time in New Orleans

Spoiler:
DeMarcus Cousins, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent in July, unfollowed the New Orleans Pelicans on Instagram earlier today. He is an active user of the popular app, maintaining an account of 2.6 million followers.

When asked about the decision, Cousins replied, “cause I’m grown.”

What does this mean? Well, it could be for any number of reasons really, but considering the timing, it’s not wrong to assume that his days in a New Orleans Pelicans uniform could fast be coming to an end and he’s not happy about recently getting wind of some disappointing news. Then again, it must be noted that Boogie is still following the Pelicans franchise on Twitter.

However, Zach Lowe of ESPN wrote a detailed article last month about Cousins contract situation in New Orleans. In essence, the organization was reportedly mulling the idea of offering Cousins a deal worth significantly less in value than the maximum contract offer sitting on the table right before his Achilles injury struck.

With New Orleans winning 20 of their final 28 regular season games and then proceeding to sweep the Portland Trail Blazers in Round 1 of the Western Conference playoffs, the Pelicans might not be interested in gambling too richly on a center who is trying to come back from an injury which few have returned back to 100% health. If so, it’s not hard to imagine that Boogie would be upset by such news, especially in light of losing out on signing a Designated Player Exception with the Sacramento Kings that would have netted him around $209 million over the span of five years.

After voicing strong support for Rajon Rondo — and Jrue Holiday one year ago, General Manager Dell Demps was not as committal in his season-ending presser last week when talking about a potential Cousins return.

“You know, in a perfect world we’d love to have him back,” said Demps. “We want him back. Sometimes things happen that you can’t control in free agency, In a perfect world, we’d like to have him and Rondo back. And then we also still want to add to our team. We feel like we want to build off of this season, but we want to grow. We don’t want to look back, we want to keep going forward and the excitement around the city, the effort from the players and the coaches and everyone, and it just motivates you to say, ‘Hey, how high can we go?’ We’re going to maximize it. We’re going to reach for it.”

Stay tuned!

Ok now we shamble Jonas

tbh i don't think it's anything but I do fear that DMC will get offended if they offer some type of contract that him/his agent think is a lowball offer.

I'm surprised the Pelicans even had an instagram account.
